If you haven't read the DaVinci Code or Angels & Demons by Dan Brown, run, don't walk to your bookstore or library. These 2 are fantastic!

Lord of the Rings series by Tolkien, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Animal Farm and 1984 (like sputnik said) by George Orwell, the Hitchhiker's Guide series by Douglas Adams, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Ender's Game (and most subsequent novels) by Orson Scott Card, A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne, The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells, and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand are all good reads. And don't get me wrong, I have plenty more recommendations...like some of Poe's short stories, or Dune...egad, now you've got me started...

At last someone who does not only read science fiction or thrillers (not that i dislike these but they seem to be a bit overrated here).
From your list I only read "In coldblood" and I have to agree with you : it's worth recommanding !
I would add : anything by Jim Harrison ;
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter Thompson
Microserfs and Generation X by Douglas Coupland
Jennifer Government by Max Barry.

I already have enough fantasy in my life Astra ... I try to stick to non-fiction, particularily revolutionary events/people, adventurers and the standards/classics that resulted in major motion pictures. And of course, a good conspiracy theory is always fashionable.
I'm currently re-reading ... Executive Action ~ Donald Freed / Mark Lane. Conspiracy theory (pretty well documented and researched) about the JFK assassination. It's been around a while (1973) but still worth a (re)read.
Next up -- BANCO ~ Henri Charriere. Yes -- that's the same Henri Charriere we've all come to know and love as Papillon -- this book brings to life the story of Papillon after his release from prison and his subsequent years living in Venezuela. Anyone that's a 'Great Escape' fan or a 'Cool Hand Luke' fan should read Papillon and Banco back to back.

I just read a great book about the MOSSAD by a former agent. it was released 15 years ago but it's still related to todays news.
I also read a couple of books about cultural differences between western and "southern" societies. Quite interesting.
