I know there probably arent a whole lot of tennis fans on here...but those of you who are, help me out here.
Is Federer just too good, unbeatable, or what?
And more importantly will he get the grand slam this year?

yea..you got some tennis fans in here.....
I just watched the Federer-Agassi match at the Austrailian open.... i was expecting a slug fest, five set duel....and got Federer winning in straight sets. He not only beat Agassi, but beat him at his own game...out hitting Agassi from the baseline.
To answer your questions....Federer is making a case for being the best player in history. In today's age when there is such little difference from the third seed to the 31st seed.....Federer is consistantly dominant. Years ago, it was easy to dominate because the competition wasn't as good.
Lets do a little comparison. Sampras vs. Federer...now granted Sampras won 7 Wimbledons...but Federer wins on all courts. Federer and Sampras BOTH have great second serves, both are extremely athletic, both have dangerous one-handed back hands. While Sampras limited his good play to hardcourt and grass....Federer wins big clay court tournaments as well as grass and hard court. Federer comes up with play after play of "how in the hell did he get that angle?" type of shots. Federer has alot of work to do to catch Sampras...but if the two were to play each other in their prime....Federer would win on clay and hardcourt, id have to take Pete on grass.
Federer also owns Andy Roddick, who in his own right is pretty much dominant-except for when he plays federer. Federer has won the past 7 meetings against Roddick....who is the #2 seed.
Federer has only lost 3 matches in the past few years....so impressive.
Id say until he shows a chink in the armor...a grand slam is not out of the question.....
and yes he is unbeatable right now....and he is TOO good.

Great post Decka.
On grass, hes unbeatable. It would take a near perfect game by Roddick, Agassi, or Henman to stop him there. (Henman is the most sucessful current player against him)
On hard, hes dominate. Hes so athletic. So perfect from all sections of the court. You just cant keep up with him from the baseline. I dont see him loosing either of the hard court slams.
His only trip up might be the French. Although he is good there too.....a smart Spaniard or Argentine having the game of their career (like Guga or Nadal last year) may be able to knock him down in 4 or 5 sets.

yes he is unbeatable at the moment, Amazing player and i think he would beat Pete on grass aswell, What i most like about his is when he plays a player that has one aspect of there game apprently perfected he plays them at it and win, Roddick - for power, Agassi, base line play etc........
Legend, He will go down in history as the best player ever!!!!

looks like he IS beatable....man what a match....did anyone see that? Safin played an INCREDIBLE match to beat Federer. That was some high-quality tennis.

I remember that match....must have been some MAJOR cramping on both sides after that.....
Here's a question i was talking about my dad with the other day.....
After a straight set loss to Roger Federer...what is Andre Agassi's future look like? He is no doubt still competitive, but i think everyone, and even he, knows that if Federer or Roddick come up in the draw its over. He's got a kid, and while Steffi seems to be very supportive, im sure she would like Andre to come home soon.
I say Andre will play this year out....and if he doesnt get past the quarters in any majors its over. He probably has 1 more push in him to try to win a major...like Sampras at the US open not too long ago.
The reason im so up on this subject is that Andre is such a motivational figure. I always tell people he has a more inspiring story than Lance Armstrong......because Lance almost died, so no duh he's gonna have drive. But Andre didn't have a near-death experience to get him out of his funk. He was married to brook shields, out of shape, down below #200 in ranking, and seemed to be on his way out. He then became the most fit player on the tour, coming back with a bang winning the french open in 1999, and more majors after.....an incredible story. This guy busts his ASS working out.....its a shame to be talking about his retirement...

Well....he is thinking about playing Davis Cup. Something he rarely ever does.
When Sampras did this....he retired, so I am going to say retire.

I'm definitely a Federer Fan. Even though Roger was beaten in the Australian open by Safin, who I feel is the second most talented tennis player in the world, there's no getting away from the fact that Roger is the most complete player and will be hard to topple from the Number 1 spot. For a while there tennis suffered a bit as far as 'Sampras' type talent was concerned, but now it looks like the Federers, Safins, Roddicks and Hewitts of the tennis world will ensure that people will again be drawn toTennis. Roddick is very talented, the only thing in my opinion that will prevent him from beating and keep beating Federer or Safin is his lack of mental toughness. Safin is starting to believe in his 'awesome' talent and that's a good thing for tennis and future duels with Federer.

Federer will be at the top or near the top for the rest of his career. No awkward fall offs like you may have seen from an Agassi or a Sampras in the passed.
Safin can be good too...he just has got to keep his head on. Even in the games that he steem rolled he lost his cool several times.
Roddick and Hewitt are both undeniably good. They are also undeniably inconsistant. I am sure both will reach a few more slam finals or even win them in their career.

o trust me....if roddick can get over this "federer-wall" he has up....this guy can dominate....
My dad always asks why the heck Roddick never serve-and-vollys??? he's got a HUGE serve, and really the only guys that beat Federer are ones that come to the net (Tim Henmen was the last to beat Federer before Safin)......
Maybe Roddick should rethink his approach...if he got it all together i dont think there's a soul out there that can stop him.

I agree.
The ball is in his court (no pun intended).....he just has to keep his head on...and play his game. I agree with the serve and volly thing....Federer is too good from the baseline and too good a returner to be beat by just a good baseliner such as Roddick. With his serve and athleticism....serving and vollying may be a great way to do that.
I also suggest throwing in some spoon and kick serves. Federer has shown over and over that he can return a 145 mile serve like a badmittion pop up.
