View Full Version : Scanning Outgoing E-mail

I just installed a new anti-virus program (AVG free from grisoft). Everything works fine, except I can't scan outgoing e-mail. Both the vendor and my ISP tell me to just turn off the scanning function for outgoing e-mail and everything should work fine, which it does.
My question is: Assuming that everything else is working fine, how much of a problem is it if I don't scan outgoing e-mail?

Not much as long as you don't get infected.
On another note, I don't know if their new 7.0 version improved things, but AVG had a horrible reputation in the anti-virus community when it came to detecting them. When I'm on Windows, I use Avast (http://www.avast.com), which is another freebie but the reviews on it are better. I suspect that as long as you're careful, you really won't have much of a virus problem and AVG would be adequate...

Thanks for that info, Borg. I'm going to take a look at Avast.
