Muslim-American suing for workplace harassment

January 4, 2005 — A Muslim-American who formerly worked for a suburban Chicago manufacturer has filed a federal lawsuit, alleging he was fired after complaining of harassment.
Syed Abbas , a native of Pakistan, says a co-worker at A-F-I Industries Incorporated repeatedly called him a terrorist. The Carol Stream man also claims a supervisor drew a picture of him and labeled it a "wanted" poster.

Abbas worked as a machine operator for A-F-I for nearly nine years before he was fired in March 2003. He says he didn't have any problems before the September Eleventh terrorist attacks.

The lawsuit filed yesterday doesn't seek specific damages, but an attorney says Abbas wants compensation for emotional abuse and economic losses.

A spokesman for A-F-I, which makes screws and other fasteners, declined to comment.

If they did treat him like shit and call him a terroist thus issolating him and making him feel like crap then i hope he gets as much money from them as possible.

IF it happened the way he is telling and he was a victim, then he should win some sort of settlement{not millions}. Now if he is just one of these guys that wants to get in on the lawsuit band wagon then I hope he falls off and breaks his neck.

My guess is the guy's an asshole looking for a quick buck. I'm sure he took some shit for looking all *Middle Easterny* in the post 911 wake, but let's be honest, he saw an opportunity to make some money at an otherwise dead-end job, and he's cashing in. We're so politically correct while being extremely "concerned" with people's feelings nowadays, that it wouldn't surprise me at all if some ass bag jury awarded him money for being inconsequentially taunted.

There is such thing as being "too politically correct". I think that the man should just get his job back to he can't waste our money by taking welfare...most people are biggoted in some way or another, but it's just and oppinion...

It is impossible to simply dismiss the man's complaints by saying --"Oh, he's just out to get rich".

IF it is proven that at the workplace the Muslim-American's supervisor made a poster of him and put **wanted** on it, i'd propose the man be returned to work, the supervisor guilty of making the poster fired without severance pay, and the Muslim-American paid all back wages and a small sum for pain and suffering.

But, given the extremely conservative environment in which we live, a just outcome is unlikely.
