i've said philly and pittsburg since the preseason, so i'm sticking to it. it's hard to still say philly's taking it, with t.o. out, but i've gotta go with my boys.

If today's games showed us nothing else, it's that Pittsburgh and New England have much deeper rosters than Philly does.

as much as it pains me to say it, i have to agree with you, lionel. i think it's bad management to sit your starters down for the last 2 games, especially when your star receiver is out for the season. i understand you're trying to protect your investment, but that kind of decision is bad for the team's morale. what kind of message are you giving the players that have to play? you're basically telling them that they're not worth as much as the players you've benched until the playoffs. and that's really foul.

Imagineer
01-03-2005, 02:33 AM
I thought the Packers handled the whole "sitting people out thing" well today. All of the regular starters played the first quarter. As the game wore on, the bench players were inserted, much in the same way they would be in a preseason game. If a player was even slightly injured, they were immediately pulled. For example Bubba Franks sat down early with a bruised leg. It seemed to work well, and the regulars should be fairly well rested for the Vikings next week.

I just want to go on record as saying again that I want to see the Falcons win...but instinct tells me to bet on the Eagles.

Who voted for the Packers? I want to bet you...

I must confess that I am the one who voted for the Packers. It was a vote from the heart, and I realize it is a long shot. Still stranger things have happened, and it may well be Favre's last chance.

You forgot to put the Vikings up there......yes, they ARE in the playoffs.

I'd like to see them upset the packers and actually make it out of the first round, though their chances are slim to null when you've got "Coach Collapse" running the show.

wow...lots of votes for an eagles team that hasn't won a game in nearly a month....

I voted for the colts....

Ah, there you are! I've missed making fun of the ViQueens. But I feel I must keep my mouth shut until after Sunday.

The vikings were left off because; after Randy Moss's last second lack of respect for his own team, They have no chance in the playoffs...They have no chance at Greenbay in the playoffs.....

but atleast they made it

Granted I was upset to see Moss leave the field like that and do think he should apologize, but that's no reason to leave them off the list. The Vikings, although a long shot, do have a chance to advance and as fair of a shot as everyone else.

By the way, you also left off the Jets, Broncos, AND the Rams...where's your argument for them? I declare this an unfair poll.

Yes silverbulletkc, Sundays game will be good. It will be outdoors, where football should be played. It will be a third game between division rivals. Who knows, maybe Moss will show up. I shall be watching on TV, and rooting for my Packers.

LionelHutz

Moss does have a history with the Packers, and generally he comes out best. Frankly, I'd rather be playing the Eagles right now than the Vikings. I don't think a Packer victory is a given at all.

You'd be surprised by watching all these sports commentary shows and hearing these analysts say that Minnesota has no chance against GB because of how poorly they played in Washington when they have everything on the line to make a successful playoff run. They also mention that because the game's at the Frozen Tundra and the Vikings are NOT an outdoor team (death to that stupid dome....though it was quite an experience being there for the first time this year) that they have no chance.

Personally I think it'll be a closer matchup than what most people are anticipating it to be. It'd be nice to see the Vikes completely blow everyone away if (and when) they win on sunday. Get ready guys, this could very well be the game of the year for Vikings and Packers fans...if we're both ready, that is.

Imagineer

I predict a close game, with the Packers winning on a last minute field goal. This would be consistent with the games already played this year. I don't see either team as having made any signifigant changes or improvements since the last meeting. All around it should be similair to the last two games.

A great game indeed with THE RIGHT TEAM coming out victorious!....Bring it on Philly!

I stand corrected, I can not believe minnesota won. They not only won they dominated, what a performance. If those vikings show up the atlanta game should be great.

Brett favre with 4 interceptions, he doesn't seem to have good luck in the playoffs anymore.

jennygadling

so, as of today:
chargers are out; packers are out; denver's out.
the jets go on; the vikings go on (amazing, isn't it? pity they won't get past philly next week); the rams go on (don't get me started. they had the same record as the saints and the saints BEAT them; it should've been new orleans in there); the colts go on (i say they're taking the pats down next week, my man says no); pittsburg and atlanta will play to stay alive. this isn't quite what i expected, but it's shaping up to be an excellent post-season.:hitout:

I am going out on a limb but I say Philly doesn't make it, upset by atlanta and I think pittsburgh will beat the colts to go.

Steelers win it all....

aagh, i agree about pittsburg beating the colts, but i think they'll lose to the eagles. at least, that's what i hope.

Well silverbulletkc, your dreams continue, and we Packer fans will have to wait. It will be interesting to see what happens in the off season this year. Speculation on whether Favre will return has already started. I wouldn't blame him if he retired, his wife needs his attention full time now, and that should be his first priority. The Packers, as was made clear today, need major rebuilding which could take several seasons. Congratulations to those whose teams advanced.

no doubt. having players with that kind of attitude on your team does more harm for the team than good, regardless how good they are.

No kidding - he shredded the Pack all year. Not to mention Culpepper - he might be the second best QB in the league right now (after Manning). Give the Vikings a few more years to shed the remaining Denny Green personnel and they probably won't bug me so much.

i would however like to ask how any team who can make the playoffs is in need of several seasons of rebuilding... really...

speaking, of course, on behalf of those team who didn't make the playoffs... go titans... !

In response to how a team that made it to the playoffs can need major rebuilding, one must consider several factors. First, they had one of the worst defenses in the NFL this year. Second, free agency is going to take a large toll this year. Both of their starting guards are unrestricted free agents, and Bubba Franks, their starting Tight End is also an unrestricted free agent. They will be able to afford to keep only one of these players unless Brett Favre retires and restructures his contract because of the salary cap. If he retires, they need to replace a hall of fame quarterback. All of this leads to my conclusion that major rebuilding is needed.

They need two new cornerbacks, at least two and maybe three defensive linemen, two linebackers, of whom at least one can start. On the offensive side they need one or two starting guards or a tight end. They also need a starting quarterback if not this year, at least in the next year or two.

Getting that much talent is going to be a several year project. What got the team to the playoffs this year was a combination of a great offensive line, a great quarterback, and good recievers and running backs. With the losses they are going to suffer to their strengths, if nothing is done, I would pick them to be no more than a 4 - 12 team next year.
