Well seeing as how I've spent the last eight New Years Eve at the Casino doing some form of work or another, I'm planning to have a very, very quiet New Years Eve this year.
To be honest, I've never been much of a fan of New Years Eve. I've read on the religion board here about Pagans and I believe it was them who started their New Year in April. To me it make more sense. The new year begins, things start growing, you clean out the house, get a garden going, things start happening. Having New Years in on the first of January, everything is mud/ice/snow and will be for the next two and a half months. Nothing changes, things just get....boring.

You know Borg, that's kinda hard once you've been introduced to the wonderful world of the Appletini.

I'm with you. The most exciting thing about the holiday is watching the clock. Then you get New Year's Day, which if you don't like college football is completely boring. Then you set yourself up for 5 months, 3 of which are pretty bleak, with no holidays or anything (unless you work for a bank or the government). Bleh.

Hey! I only consider drunkedness (being wasted) a sin. Even Christ had a little wine every now and then.

I've never had 100 proof wine, the vodka is likely to be 80 or better.
Interesting bit of trivia: vodka is very often the last drink an alcoholic has prior to either accepting treatment or dying. I base this bit of knowledge by listening to the hundreds of drunks I've hospitalized for detox and eventual rehab.
What's the difference between Catholics & Baptists? Catholics will greet you in the liquor store rather than ignoring you.

Smirnoff is actually only like 4 or 5 percent alcohol. Its nothing more than a wine cooler.

Do a bit more research, kid - decades before they began to manufacture 'wine coolers' they were making vodka, and plenty of it.

Uh, Smirnoff is a vodka. Go to their home page, and the title starts off "Smirnoff vodka drinks..." Maybe some Smirnoff spinoff is a wine cooler, but Smirnoff is a vodka. I know this, and I've never even touched vodka, much less ingested it.

Since you're under the age of legal consumption, whoever is obtaining the liquor, regardless of potency, is guilty of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Surely your stout fundamental christian beliefs prevent you from encouraging others to sin simply to provide you the illicit recreational beverages you so enjoy. Go ahead on, behave just like any other religious hypocrite. Congratulations, kid!!

Gladly, you can think how you like. I've already explained my feelings on it.

Oh, so it's ok for you to imbibe as long as the booze is only 4%? Bullshit. You're underage. It's against the law. You're the one preaching "christian beliefs & behaviors" here, not me. Don't call me judgmental for simply pointing things out to you, kid. I'm not the one spreading the "don't do as I do, do as I say" mentality here. That's all yours, kid.

I bet Jesus was over 21 when he had the wine :)
I wonder if Jesus flouted the law also? Is that a sin? You are 17 - you need to be 21 to drink.
Plus - where is the dividing line between intoxication and drunkedness?
Oh well - looks like you will never see the streets paved with gold afterall.
I have no problem with you drinking vodka, getting wasted now and again would probably do you the world of good - I just chuckle at the pure hypocracy.

Ok first of all......its freaken 4 percent alcohol...and even if I'm doing something wrong its breaking a man made law.
Sin is disobediance to GOD's law.

Beer is 4% alcohol too.
So by your logic, so long as you don't break God's law you can do whatever the hell you like.
How convenient.

12-28-2004, 09:11 PM
So by that you're above it all??Bullshit.
Try that crapola on the next kop that stops you for speeding or running a stop sign, and most likely you'll be given some bracelets to wear on the way to the county lockup, or psych ward. Your god is not going to come down and intervene in front of a judge.

Youre taking things a little out of context....but I will say this. I'd much rather break man's law than God's.

What, exactly, is being taken out of context? Your own words speak volumes.
Again it's jerejerebinks telling everyone: don't do as I do, but do as I say. I can do anything I want as long as it's not breaking god's laws.
Seems to be a fairly clear statement.

Do your parents know you're drinking? If not, I would assume they don't want you to. And thus, you are breaking one of the Ten Commandments.

Lets see how many sins will be commited by Jerejere on New Years eve.
1) Honor thy father and mother. - Would they aprove of what you are going to do?
What The Bible Says About Recreational Alcohol & Drug Use
Many question whether the Bible speaks against recreational drug and alcohol use. You will not find 'thou shalt not drink Budweiser' in the Bible. You also will not find 'thou shalt not smoke pot or inject heroin.' When it comes to applying God's word to alcohol and drug use, we must apply Bible principles. The passages below address how to apply the Bible to sins not specifically condemned in God's word (like getting high or drunk). Below you will also find passages about our consciences, the power of influence and obeying the laws of the land regarding drug and alcohol use.
The Bible must be interpreted:
Nehemiah 8:5-8
"…they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading…"
Acts 8:30,31
"Do you understand. . .How can I, unless someone guides me…"
Acts 17:11
"…They received the word. . .and searched the scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so."
I Thessalonians 5:21
"Test all things; hold fast what is good."
II Timothy 2:15
"Be diligent. . .rightly dividing the word of truth."
I Timothy 4:16
"Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine…"
The Bible implies and we infer:
Romans 12:17
"…Have regard for good things in the sight of all men"
Galatians 5:19-21
"…fornication, uncleanness, lewdness. . .drunkenness, revelries, and the like…"
I Thessalonians 5:22
"Abstain from every form of evil."
I Timothy 1:10
"…Liars. . .perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine."
Passages about addiction:
"Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts . . . For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace." Romans 6:12-14
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any." I Corinthians 6:12
"But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified." I Corinthians 9:27
Passage on taking care of our bodies:
"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." I Corinthians 6:19,20
Passages about our influence:
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:13-16
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:27,28
"It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles." Romans 14:21
"Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits.” I Corinthians 15:33
Passage on obeying the law of the land:
"Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves." Romans 13:1,3
Passage about our conscience:
"But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin." Romans 14:23
