View Full Version : Terrorism vs. Democracy!
Seems like with things happening, like the 3 election workers in Iraq being pulled from their cars and killed in broad-day-light, that no matter how one views the war in Iraq politically the war is terrorism vs. Democracy.
These terrorist are proving that the backing of the resistance is definitely motivated by the power hungry religious leaders that do not want to give up their iron grip on the people.
To me another fine example of how a religion cannot be mixed with government of the people of a country.
The terrorist think nothing of killing their own people in the name of keeping a religion in power.
A fine example of "believe as I do or I will kill you."
And yes the Saudis know their day is coming.

I'm guessing that 99% of the insurgents are un-educated young men who think they are fighting for something of value.

the problem is that there are so many impoverished undereducated young men who are angry about their situation, and for very good reason .the teorrirst leaders give them a place to channel their anger to. the obvious way to solve the problem is to get to the root of it and educate these people and provide them with a decent living and a gratifying job. democracy can't work in a country with abject poverty and a crummy education system.

and how was that going to happen with saddam in power whammybar?
Yes, I have said before that ultimately education is the answer. First though, the place will have to settle down. These people have probably been kept purposely in the dark where formal education is concerned. The religion has been taught since childhood as a manipulation device.
Formal education and worldly experience is dangerous to a dictorial ruler. This is why the infidels are hated so much by those in power.
Most people can be manipulated if a weakness is found, the uneducated are at a disadvantage. They trust and rely upon the religious leaders they revere for their information. Many of the religious leaders are politicians in thobes instead of suits.

the war is terrorism vs. Democracy
I'd consider what we're doing to that country - terrorism. More like terrorism vs. terrorism.
These terrorist are proving that the backing of the resistance is definitely motivated by the power hungry religious leaders that do not want to give up their iron grip on the people.
If u.s. was invaded, would you expect our leaders to give up their "iron grip" on us? The take-anything-we-want mentality is disgusting in my book.
fine example of how a religion cannot be mixed with government of the people of a country.
One Nation Under God. Surely you're talking about the u.s. too, right?

there seems to be a very widespread misconception about iraq when saddam was in power: he was a secular ruler. he really completely eliminated relgion from his government, him and bin laden were terrible enemies for that reason. he didn't use religion to gain countrol over people, he used other methods. I'm not saying he's any better for it, but i am statting a fact. he really had nothing to do with al queada because they hated him for being muslim and not running a muslim country. and trav, an answer to your question: terrorism, atleast on a global scale, wasn't a problem in iraq before we invaded. theres no way al quada had nay sort of meaningful presence there while saddam was in power, and now our invasion has given them a real reason to direct their anger towards us.

well when saddam was in power there wasnt any reason for queda to worry about as it was run by muslims and they werent interested but as soon as the U.S came in things changed, they dont want people to get freedom nor do they want to see the U.S in a muslim dominated nation.
