For the present economic cycle, I would suggest a bronze tableau of a smirking glutton, quickly sinking into a bottomless pit of quicksand.

Bush is not an innovator or a "uninter". The actions of his administration are hauntingly familiar. The conservative strategy for dismantling the Weimar Republic was to create a series of crises followed by “emergency” measures that gradually codified fascism. People were apprehensive, but lacked the resolve to resist what was happening. Fascism did not triumph; it won by default when citizens passively allowed their freedom to be confiscated in the name of security.

Free"thinker", Do you enjoy the internet? This wasn't invented for your enjoyment. Many people made billions of dollars on all aspects of this. What about your house, car, shoes, medicine, ambulances, hospitals, medical research and food.

I say "Bring on the smirking gluttons"

Everyone who is a Corporatist [iow, a fascist] at heart should be quite comfortable with the worldview of-- "Bring on the smirking gluttons".

Republicans are approaching their Shining City On A Hill. They have successfully exploited public fear of terrorism to justify bullying the world, looting the Treasury and shredding the Bill of Rights. Their next goal is to implement the societal model based on Charles Dickens’ London, that paragon of meritocracy where the Deserving Few live in splendor while the Undeserving Many live in squalor.

FT - I challenge you to post a response without using the word "facist."

Umm... good one. And nice job of dodging the first half of the post.

If our society became the way it is because of the "smirking gluttons", I think the millions of people who come here legally and illegally would like us to export a few.

While the billions of people on this planet who do not come here, and who protest the imperialism and the militarism of the US in the streets of the other countries around the globe have made known their wish that we would *export* far less of it.

"billions" would mean 2 billion or more. Are you sure there are that many people protesting in the streets. That's a lot of streets. I mean, you wouldn't, like, exaggerate to make a point, would you?
