This is something that has puzzled me for years. For the past few days I wanted to go out and fly my R/C Jet, but everytime I tried I kept geting turned back due to high winds. I once thought that the heat rising from the earths surface had something to do with it but I'm not really sure. Does anyone here know anything about this that can give me a better understanding of the winds origin?

Basically, wind is due to variations in air pressure, which are themselves caused by the conjunction of many factors - differences of temperature between areas, rate of humidity, shape of mountains and plains, tides, and of course the rotation of the Earth on itself (creating the spiral winds we see from space). Wind is a very common phenomenon but it is very difficult to predict accurately, as most meteorological phenomenons.

I disagree.
Lately, what has made the wind blow is George W. Bush running so fast in the Congress trying to cut Social Security and Medicare programs.

the wind blows because of a butterfly flapping its wings on the other side of the earth :)

If the question was simply stated...

I maybe wrong but I was thinking
Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld & Rice..
