View Full Version : Observations of Air America

I was thinking about air america again. Listening to Micheal Medved right now, he has one of the founders of air america on as a guest. He is saying how much of a success it is. After listening to his idea of success, I have a few observations. First, the point of Air America is to reach out and try to sway some people towards the liberal cause. All of their "success" is in large citys and liberal areas. Tell me, how is"preaching to the choir" a success? ya, they have good numbers in big citys. Big deal. Big cities already vote democrat.
Secondly, I work in a big city, Sacramento, and i get air america in the city. but, I live 30 miles outside sacramento. The signal of air america cuts out not to long after I get outside sacramento. So basically Air America is confined by its underpower signal to Sacramento proper and its immediate surrounding area. How is this helping reach those who may be swayed?
Third, why is it I NEVER hear dissenting calls on any air america show? I listen a couple hours a week, and have yet to hear one person who disagrees with any of the hosts. all the callers jsut kiss the ass of the host and tell them how right they are. While this happens on some right wing shows too, i dont like it. Rush has a few dissenters a day, Medved is almost all dissenting calls. thats why I like Medved so much. He takes apart al libs in short order.

You're about as wrong on that particular subject as is humanly possible .
The flagship program of Air America --the Al Franken show-- has a regularly scheduled caller as a guest of the show who is in adamant opposition to everything Franken says and stands for.
That caller --and he makes no secret of the fact-- thinks that GWBush has NEVER once in his life done anything wrong, and he is given a regularly scheduled platform --in a prime time slot--to express his extreme Rightwing views.

You are very wrong about that. They have many desenting callers. And the interesting thing is that they actually allow them to speak, unlike rush blowhard.

LOL, I am not talking about some clown Franken uses as a whipping boy. I am talking about real callers. If you think a regularly scheduled caller who fits every stereotype the left has of conservatives is what I am talking about you are as wrong as humanly possible. get away from the scripted stuff and let real callers call. LMAO, regularly scheduled caller who thinks bush has NEVER been wrong, LOL. ya, OK freethinker. someone better learn to differentiate between real life and make believe. LEt me guess, Al Franken ALWAYS wins right?

The caller i'm talking about is a *real* person, and one who is very articulate in defending Bush and his Adminisration's policies. The caller in question grew up friends with Franken, and Franken unfailingly treats him politely and with deference.

I don't know which one "wins", but Franken consistently shoots down this fellow's half-truths and misrepresentations about Bush and his actions.
My point is that an avowedly hard-Rightwing caller is regularly given an open forum to express his viewpoint, in diametric opposition to what happens on extreme RightWing radio hatefests like Limbaugh, Hannity and Savage.

oh why do I bother with these fools? Anything I say will instantly be said to be a total lie. lets put it this way. I have NEVER heard one caler disagree with Randi Rhodes, ever. a friend of franken who worshps george bush is not my idea of a dissenting caller, more like a whipping boy.

It's because you lie, Trav. I hear republicans call in all the time.

Wrong. I’ve heard many people call in and talk about how they are Anti-Gay Marriage, and Pro-Iraq War. Sorry, I hear dissenting callers all the time.

Depending on who you listen to. I’ll go through the ones I hear a lot.
The guys on in the morning time get a few callers that are pro-bush, just not often. Or the time I listen to them anyway.
Al Franken like everyone has said, has a regular Pro-Bush person come in. They actually debate very well.
The one where I hear the most dissenting callers would be Ed Shultz. He use to be a conservative and so he gets more right-wing callers.
Randi doesn’t take calls that often…but personally I wouldn’t want to call her if I was a Republican. She’d rip you apart.
Janeane Garofalo does not take callers at all. Period.
Mike Malloy has many right-wing fanatical callers call in.
There is your overview.

About a week ago, Randi took a caller that vehemently disagreed with her, and they had an epic shouting match.
Randi fumed for 10 minutes after the guy hung up.

I'll give you one guess.
Randi's logic is virtually unassailable.
No wonder the ConservaFascists despise her so.

i still think he was right about the while Donovan McNabb thing...
i watched ESPN list of biggest "mess ups" as far as saying something offensive....and Rush was #3????
all he did was suggest that the NFL had an agenda for McNabb, and it was a social issue......and the facts seemed to fit. McNabb at the time had almost the worst passer rating, yet was the focal point of NFL advertising. Hell...they put him on the NFL marquee with the legends like Joe Namath, Jerry Rice, etc. Something is DEFINITELY wrong there......McNabb at the time was an average to above-average quarterback, and yet was made to be an icon. I agree Rush.....i agree.
