Ok just read a thread earlier which basiccly got me thinking, how come America does have to have its own sports & doesn't really follow what the rest of the world does? Not trying to cause an arguement or any offence like the person before did, but just wanted to know the history behind it.

It's like the worlds into soccer, Rugby, cricket, snooker, Formula 1 etc

but americas got basketball, American Football, Baseball, Pool and Indy Cars etc it's like you've got your own versions of the sports but abit different.

(i added pool in there because i was flicking through sports channels the other day and some pool tournement was on (in US with only US players etc) & i was like why dont americans play World snooker championships

It's what makes our country unique...no conformism here. Besides, snooker? who would play that?! :)

Your question is a good one. Condidering that 51% of our populace are sheeple rather than people.

Oh good lord, what does that have to do with anything, other than you wanting to take a shot at the red states for no particular reason.

Besides, if we were sheeple, we'd just blindly adopt all of the European sports.

A lot of these sports developed when there wasn't as much media exchange between the U.S. and Europe. Now that we have much more access to the sport that the rest of the world plays, we are already saturated with sports entertainment, so it's hard for us to want to get involved with new sports.

Rugby- this is similar to American football, so we don't see much of a reason to prefer it over what we already have.

Cricket-We just don't have the patience for 5 day matches.

Snooker-As a spectator, I don't see why anyone would watch this, or pool (or poker for that matter)

F1-There's a lot more room for advertising on NASCAR cars:D

Football(soccer)- this sport is making progress in the U.S. I believe it is the most widely played sport amongst American youth. Our men's national team was quite successful in the last World Cup, and even though the games were played dreadfully early in the morning, here, there was a lot of excitement about it. And our women's soccer program is one of the best in the world, so I believe this sport will continue to grow in the U.S., especially when you have teams like Man. Utd. touring our country showcasing the sport.

Basketball is also popular in Eastern Europe. It's very fast paced and high-scoring, which really appeals to Americans. One of the complaints I hear about soccer, amongst Americans, is that the game is low-scoring, but I believe these complaints will die out as more Americans learn the complexities of the sport.

What are you talking about? Personally I'd rather watch a bunch of guys get bloodied and bruised instead of a gay orgy!

like i said before, we are a very physical, aggressive nation. we like to take our own frustrations out watching others beat the crap out of each other. i mean, come on. cricket? we need action!
and (oh mygod, i don't believe i'm actually saying this) i agree with blibb. anyone who's ever seen a rugby match knows just how physical and rough it is. i think if it were broadcast like our football is, it would become our new favorite pasttime. maybe that's the reason!! maybe all the NFL bigwigs don't want the competition.

I agree that Rugby is highly exciting, but American football is already so ensconced in our media that we just watch that because it's more prevalent, and more easily accessible.

I think a lot of people, upon seeing a match on TV, say, "Wow, that's interesting, kinda like football. Which reminds me, I wonder how the Packers are doing." And then switch the channel.

If the Packers were playing I would never even change the channel to Rugby. It would be sacrilege!

I didn't. I watched every painful moment. The only good thing was that Nall looked pretty good at quarterback in the fourth quarter. Of course the Eagles didn't really care by then, but he still looked pretty good. I guess when it comes to the Packers I am pretty much a fanatic.
By the way, tune in Sunday to see how the Jaguars enjoy the frozen tundra. Forecast high around 10 degrees. True Packer weather.

You're both reading... I don't see the connection with blindness. Momentary blindness and brain malfunction may occur due to watching gay orgies on American television however.
