From one musician to another revenG ... keep up the good work -- you will never regret playing instruments, learning to read music and understanding music theory.

Yeah band is awesome!

Sandy: Fetus-ambulance is this thing some dude named The ranting Griffin made up. He always complains about current events in the world. Really funny...

High School band is totally awesome. I can't wait to start on January 3rd. Thanks Lungdop for the advice. I might make music my career but I don't know what I'd do...

I haven't played an instrument in years, but I can still read music. You never forget it once you learn it.

Many people do not know that music is mathamatical.

I can still read music for the most part but its been 20 yrs since I have played !

Oh good lord.

I have a story. A story about a young man named Lionel. Lionel played trombone and was pretty good (until he got braces - ouch). Lionel enjoyed playing in the band in junior high. Then Lionel went to high school where the band geeks took over. Band geeks think band is the most important thing in the world. Which is why they're so odd . . .

lol that is so true about high school band nerds. They're always in the damn band room talking about the crescendo in measure 34 of the new song...you gotta admit, though. Some of them are quite hot ;)

I used to play flute. The band at my high school were the people that got to take trips to Florida and the Bahamas. Other school groups didnt get to take trips like that. So, it was pretty cool being in band.

i played the flute and the piccolo!! we went to d.c., houston, orlando...all over the place.

and rev... i was a little band hottie! when i was drum major, i wore a little skirt (very similar to a cheerleader's skirt) instead of the traditional uniform. it was so cute. i especially loved marching in the parades (during mardi gras).

truly, keep at it. i'm hoping one of my kids inherited my musical ability. i haven't played in years, but i still catch myself listening for "my" part in a song, actually fingering through it. i miss it.

you know how i got into it? i taught myself to play the accordian when i was 7. picked it up, watched our church's pianist play (she couldn't read a lick of music; she played by ear), and i played what she played. i started playing the flute when i was 8 (played until i graduated), moved up to the piccolo by the time i was in 9th grade.

i loved football games, too. i played the smallest instrument, but you could hear me across the stadium. so many people think all band members are dorks; so not true. i was student body president, national honor society member, and i knew most of the students fairly well. i love music; i wish i could convince more kids to try it. it's about more than just playing an instrument. it teaches you to listen, to work together, to broaden your horizons. playing an instrument doesn't make you a dork. by the way, i played softball, too. our school actually supported our band. you know, people should be encouraged to expand their minds and try different things until they find something they connect with. i think it'd help the growing number of kids that feel like they don't fit in, they're pressured to participate in things they have no interest in; they should be advised to try various things until they find what feels comfortable to them. well-rounded, open-minded children become self-confident, well-rounded, open-minded adults.

not always true. there are some who eat, sleep, and die band. that wasn't me. i was involved in many groups and sports, as well as being the drum major of our band (i was a softmore; i beat out 11 seniors for that position). i was in the drama club. i had friends in all the "cliques". i truly love music; i appreciate all music (i may not particularly care for all types, but i believe music speaks to people in different ways. now that i have children of my own, i make sure they're exposed to all types of music, helping them to appreciate all music, regardless as to what their personal preferences may be.

i just finished my finals last week. trust me, they do not get any easier. but, i pulled off a 3.8 gpa
you'll do fine. don't try to overload on the material. and remember, don't sweat the small stuff. you've got many years ahead of you to stress over things. you know more than you think. no all-nighters, no cramming, no stressing. do your best; that's all anyone can ask of you.
p.s. contrary to what you're told, you won't ruin your life if you bomb this class. good luck, rev

Mind you, I'm not making fun, because that's basically the crowd I hung out with, but being student body president and a member of the honors society doesn't exactly prove that you weren't a dork. :)

well, our student body president was elected by the students. the most popular candidate with the most friends (or aquaintances)won. i was friends with everyone, no matter what clique they were in.

I always thought high school finals were worse than college finals, at least with regard to the scheduling (college having hard material). At least at my high school I was taking 2 finals a day for 3-4 days in a row. In college you've got 2-4 finals spread out over the course of a week.

that's not fair. i was an honor society member as well, remember? i kept a 4.0 GPA. i took accellerated classes (physics as a sophmore, calculus as a junior, etc.)i was awarded a presidential scholastic award 5 years in a row. brains and popularity, too.

by the way, i just took my microeconomics, astronomy, and human sexuality finals last week.
