Women facing imminent stoning, death by hanging in Iran Tue. 30 Nov 2004
Iran Focus
Tehran, Nov. 30 - The Supreme Court of Iran has upheld a stoning sentence for a woman accused of adultery. Hajieh Esmailvand has been serving prison time in the town of Jolfa (Northwestern Iran) since Jan. 2000 for having an affair with a 17-year-old boy.
Originally she had been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and ‘death by hanging’; however the Supreme Court subsequently changed the verdict from ‘death by hanging’ to ‘death by stoning’.
One informed source told Iran Focus that the Supreme Court has ordered that the remainder of Hajieh’s prison sentence be annulled so that the stoning sentence can be carried out ‘before 21 December 2004’.
The boy whom Hajieh had the affair with is also on death row awaiting official orders to be hanged in public. His identity has not been made clear.

We don't have to send team america to Iran; Iran is coming to team America. Over one million Iranians have moved into Iraq since we came to Iraq.

Do you believe that fear is a good motivator?
I personally believe that it's the most effective, and is good in dealing with the weak at heart.
During the first 600 years in Islam (if I'm not mistaken)...Only four times was the punishment for stealing done (as you know, in Islam the punishment for stealing is chopping off the hand).
You know why?
Cause seeing the punishment was enough to make people who had thoughts of stealing from someone stop having these thoughts...
Imagine seeing a hand chopped off in front of you o.O I think I might faint if I saw that.
Anyway, my point is...
You people think that stoning is completely wrong. My views are the opposite. If the said person really did commit adultery then I'd say that this person should be stoned to death.
Just like the Sharia Law intended it.

The classic Hebrew laws are as harsh.
I America we imprison people for selling drugs. How many people are raped, mutilated, and killed in American prisons?
No one "deserves" to be physically harmed for a non-violent crime (I bet the rich people in Iran and America don't have to worry about such treatment).

It's a combination of religion, culture, society, and government that determines social practices. There are some Muslim societies where women aren't even expected to wear headscarves, and non-Muslim societies that have female circumcisions and honor killings.

Stoned for spanking the monkey isn't this a little bit harsh? Maybe half these abusive men should be stoned for forcing women to be their wife
I hope you are not serious about killing someone for getting their rocks off?

Hello Sweety,
As always it is good to hear from you. It looks like Sarah has flew the coup. If I lived under Sharah Law I wouln't steal anything cuz I needs my hands and I certainly wouldn't steal away in the night for extra marital sex because I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a stoning.
How many grades do you go through before going to college? In the USA, we go through 12 grades high school before college. I think some countries only go through 8 grades before college.

And :) it's good to hear from you too + it's nice to see that you agree with me regarding the fear motive.
Well we go through 12 grades before college too. Personally, I'm in my senior year, and my school goes with an American Curriculum. The Arabic and Islamic subjects, however, are a must from our Ministry.

I have little understanding of laws in the middle east and I wouldn't go there because I might offend someone and get in serious trouble.
A friend of mine had his flight diverted to Cario Egypt so he went on a bus tour. He saw a veil fall from a womans face so he looked to see who was under that mask and her husband pulled out a big curved knife and chased my friend down the street until a policeman stopped them. The policeman explained that that my friend had commited a grave sin by looking at the womans face and her husband was duty bound to avenge the offence. My friend went back to the airport and stayed until his flight was ready.

Islamic Republic,do you know what it means?
People have chosen their gov.
They choose their supreme leader indirectly, they vote for some people called connoisseurs. These elected people choose the supreme leader.SL has some special responsibilities. His duties are mostly intellectual beside choosing some officials like the head of TV & radio department. One of his most important duties is to keep organizations' heads united. As soon as the leader does sth wrong or against people's benefits he'll be failed from his responsibility. He does not have a special executive duty. This is the gov's.In general all of the officials do their jobs according to Islam which is aimed at people's progress. If an oficial does sth against it people want him to be quit. This is Iran's gov.

Maybe you would become a star!
A college student in New York started a live cam where you could see in any room in her apartment including the bathroom. She charged $25 to see anytime 24/7. There were many complaints that the system was overloaded when she took a shower. However, women were her biggest customers. Companys would come to her house to do make ups on her face and hair and clothes. Cooks would show their cooking on her stove. She was making big bucks. That was about 10 years ago.
Do you have any TV shows about teenage life in the UAE?

Wow Sarah, you make a great point. I guess when you look at it that way we look quite barbaric ourselves.
I guess the issue about the middle eastern countries is the treatment of women.
We are only told of the horrible acts committed towards them and how they are treated as if dirt was worth more than a human being. I hope this is not really how they are treated but television here in the states show a totally horrible way of life for women.

We have many criminals in the USA and it is easy to get mugged or killed, eventho I have never had a problem.
The man that chased my friend with a knife was not acting as an individual he was acting as required by his religion. Truthfully he could have killed my friend but he was happy just to scare the Sheet out of him.
"The mingling of men and women together is clearly forbidden. Allah said about the wives of the Prophet, the most modest and pure wives in both worlds: 'And when you ask of them something, [do so] from behind a screen. It is purer for your hearts and for their hearts' [Qur'an 33:53]. Allah required that speaking between the Prophet's wives and the Prophet's companions take place from behind a screen that separates the woman from the man. This clearly emanates from the prohibition against mingling [of the sexes], the requirement that the woman wear the veil, and the prohibition on showing her face…
"I order all those present at this forum to fear Allah and fear His wrath and His punishment toward anyone who transgresses His commandment, deviates from the path of righteousness, and causes the doors of evil to open

Sandy,
I've heard westerns have got such strange ideas about muslim
women. That's not strange. It's got a long story which this forum is not capale of getting that. But I can just mention that these are absolutely wrong.I live so happily.Ofcourse there are some minor limitations. But these are necessary for a human being,as we are not animals to live completly freely, although animals have got some rules too, haven't they?
We are respected here as a human being, nobody is allowed to insult women here.No difference between women & men in respecting cases.Maybe even sometimes women are more respected as they are respectable mothers.
Above all,I think women are more insulted in the western countries more than every other country.I mean they are not considered as mankinds, but some attractive sexual devices. It's a great insult.Women have lot's of talents while all these are ignored by western men.
When you control your sexual interest & limit them to your family,
you can bloom all your talents in the society instesd of being a sexual symbol.

Old Reb, I was raised a Catholic and ashamed to say not a very good practicing one at that.
I see some excellent points Sarah is making and of course had to add my two cents worth.
My son is best friends with a boy from Iran and I know his family well. They are very American and arn't much different from us. They have been here since 1998 and I have gotten to know his mother fairly well. They are business owners of a hamburger restaurant here in my town and its a very popular place here too with the best hamburgers.
I remember when my sons friend spent the night the first time I found myself asking what he ate and if he needed any special needs but he ate everything and no needs nessary. This was 7 yrs ago so now he is like another child for me !

If these personal items are interesting to you, then, allright.
I've got two married brothers, and a cute 5 nephew who's about 5 months old,and another one will be born some months later. It takes about 15 minutes to go to their 2 floor house.
