Does anyone use norton ghost.......i have an asus a7a266 ...a7a266 e.....and an ecs k7s5a....i use ghost images on all three.....when i first got my computer loading image file in from a7a266 was ok.....ie i could load 800 meg in about 3 minutes and 40 secs...getting a transfer rate of say 180-240 meg a minute......than all that changed and i dont know why......since then i bought an ecs k7s5a...supposedly a budget board..i can load an image that is 1.8 gig in 6 minutes 3 seconds ..getting a transfer rate of say 280 - 360 meg a minute....i then bought an a7a266 e /ata 133
and a maxtor 80 gig ata 133 drive....the transfer rate on this drive is poor 90 meg a minute on loading ghost image file......udma 6 is set in bios...All 3 machines are connected correctly using ata 100 cable......The a7a266...transfers now at 90 meg a minute(slow) using seagate 5400 drive set to udma 5.....westerne digital 40 gig 5400 ...in same machine set to udma 5...this is slow as well......The k7s5a has exactly the same seagate 5400 ata 100 drive .....but this rockets.....I am having to wait 10 minutes to load 800 meg image to C.....on the asus boards.......Also my friend has a gigabyte board ....quite old.....has an ata 100 drive ...but motherboard only handles udma 66 ...and her transfers are faster than mine.....What is going on....any help or ne1 got similar problems >>>Thanks

Probably a cheap mobo or network card?

when you say cheap mobo what do you mean asus a7a266 and the asus a7a266-e were not cheap...i do however have a realtek network card in both asus motherboards ...but then again i have the same kind of network card in ecs k7s5a

I think JWB means that the quality of the board was cheaply done. Just because a board cost 200 dollars doesnt mean it will last longer than the 100 dollar board. I suggest that you read your user manual and look on their website. As far as transfer make sure you have no transfer problems with cable or such.

I have two of these boards (well 1 a7a266)and the e version ...for which i bought an 80 gig ata 133 7200 rpm hard drive...incidently..i took that back .as it had bad clusters and replaced it with a 120 gig ata 133 maxtor 5400 rpm..drive ...it is averaging 157 meg a minute loading ghost image onto windows partition (C) .which is better than it was (92)....Still not quite as fast as the ecs motherboard and seagate ST340910A 40 gig(220 meg a minute) ...This is the same drive that is in my a7a266 motherboard along with a western digital WD400EB 40 gig (this is the board that is really slow I.E 90 meg a minute loading ghost image onto windows partition...i have read the manual....and as far as visiting the website goes it is really poor standard now ...dont know who has contract to do their website at the moment .....but i hope they only got one years contract....Anyway thanks for the input so far.....

I also have the asus a7a 266 and I know that it the ata 100 and not ata133 board (you have to upgrade to latest bios 011 to support ata133)

I also have the maxtor liquid bearing 80gb ata133 740 hd and set in bios to use the right dma mode.

I have no problems what so ever, so maybe bios upgrade helps.

If you go over 2 networks, and the card is only 100mbit, then you are limited to that speed.

The A7A266-e is As standard an ATA 133 board
Was referring to that with the 133
also i am well aware that my network cards run at 10/100 speed
