I think he should not go in. I respect his on field accomplishments, but he compromised the integrity of the game by betting on games he was involved in. The proper punishment is to be banned for life. He should not go into the hall of fame, just as shoeless Joe Jackson did not go in.

I think the Hall of Fame is a place for on the field accomplishments, not personal character judgement.

If I were to be the final say so on this matter, I would not let him in. He bet on baseball games he was managing. I know a couple degenerate gamblers, so i can speak from what i know, who wouldnt even hesitate to fix games so that their gambling jones was a more sure thing.
Sadly, Pete Rose was a degenerate gambler. What I mean when i call him a degenerate is that no normal or sane gambler would acrue debts with shady individuals who would have no problems ending your existence. When it gets to that point, you have a serious problem.
I really admired the way Pete Rose played the game of baseball. He was a balls out player who gave everything on every play. How could you not admire his effort?
If they ever do consider letting him into the hall of fame then I think they should let the members of the hall of fame vote on whether to allow Pete into their fraternity or not. But if I had a vote, it would be a resounding "No".

Noah,
To be such a Red's fan, I'm very surprised at how much you wish Rose ill.

The rule that there will be no betting on baseball stems from the 1919 "Black Sox" series in which 8 White Sox players were found guilty of "throwing" the world series to the Reds. The players did it for the sake of making money off of gamblers. The credibility of baseball was in jeopardy because of that world series, and baseball felt like it had to assure that this would not happen again.
The rule was made for a damn good reason. Allowing the first major case of the rule being broken in recent times to make an acception would show players that there is no consequence for gambling on baseball. As a result, you would probably find more cases of games being thrown.
Now is that a good reason to let Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame? Is it a good idea to make one man happy and in exchange sacrifice the integrity of baseball?

Pete Rose should for sure be put in the hall of fame.....sure he made some mistakes, but he made his peace with it and admited to it.....now people need to get off his back and remember him for his achievments rather than his faults.

If Bonds, Sheffield, and Giambi can use illegal steroids and not even get suspended....then Rose should be in the hall of fame.

I could care less whether or not he gets in because it's not like he's an especially likeable guy, but his gambling didn't affect his play on the field, which for a player should be what determines whether or not you get in.
