Just watch out for adware and spyware. That stuff can really screw up your computer, or at least annoy the hell out of you.

I've used BearShare and Ares. Both work quite well.

Limewire is honestly the best one to use. You get much less viruses than kazaa, it tells you most of the corrupted files and warns you. Plus it has a lot more!

Win free band stuff at:

I love WinMX - no ads, no nothing. But since I installed my router and 2nd computer, I can't get it to work. :(

Say i had another thought, are you running servicepack 2 on the host XP system, because that thing is evil.

I personally still use Kazaa lol, and Bit torrent when i want albums etc.

On PC, I like Ares a lot... The only one I've used on a Mac is Limewire, and in my experience it makes my internet go REALLY slow... I wouldn't reccommend it if you use dial up. We have Bit Torrent as well but we can't get it to work...

Lok - I am using SP2 on my host XP... but I think the problem is in the ports on the router... anyway, I'm trying Ares now for the first time, and so far so good!

Glad I found this thread guys! Thanks!

SP2 has that nasty habit of restricting the amount of open ports you can have, since it uses the logic no normal person should need more than 5 open ports at any one time. (which is true if there not peer to peer file sharing)

Its Microsofts sick little way of stopping P2P without actually saying there stopping p2p.

Isn't LimeWire on top right now?

I am really a novice at downloading music online, but today I just downloaded Bittorrent. Then I visited www.suprnova.com where I actually had to pay monthly fee to download music.

Now I baught this 1 year deal for $1.49/month. But I ended up getting charged $32 because somehow an "upgrade" package is included also in my order.

I feel really stupid. This doesn't seem like how it's suppose to work...

Anyway, after I have the username and password, I was instructed to download eTomi software. Then all the downloading is done with this software. All this is very long-winded and shady. If anyone has indepth knowledge in this matter, please just tell me whether I've been scammed...

I was able to download stuff just fine though.

suprnova.com is a scam. It was suprnova.org and they told to shut down by the MPAA and RIAA and they did. One notice, if you're looking for downloading stuff online and they're asking for money... it's a scam. I'd only trust iTunes or Rhapsody for pay to get.

I personally use Ares and sometimes Kazaa Lite 171 (first version)
