Due to the unprecedented amount of violence around the world directly relating to knives, I am calling for a ban on all knives, and as an addendum I would like to impose a restriction on who we allow to buy forks. The tines on a fork can be used as a deadly weapon in the hands of anyone who is so inclined to hurt others and i dont think that is fair to the rest of us who only use our forks to eat with or get knots of of shoe strings.

Just look what a ban on knives could have done for China in the news article I am posting at the end of this rant. Remember, knives dont kill people, its only their sharp edges that do. Dont get me started on the evils of individual car ownership.

You forgot about baseball bats and golf clubs, and shoes with cleats look awfully wicked.

While I'm on the subject, there is a segment of society that wishes to ban paintball guns because they train people to kill. I kid you not.

You can't forget banning windows in buildings taller than one floor. People can be pushed out of them you know!

Battery operated tools are just as bad - at least with an extension cord you could only go so far.

Automobile is the weapon of choice. You can always say it was an accident. I know several auto accidents that were actually murders but what can you do to prove it?

I know a guy who strangled his renter with his shoe string because he wouldn't pay his rent. Now the Strangler has free rent for life. The Lawyers maxed out all his credit cards for lawyers fees and then delcared bankruptcy for the guy.

We probably ought to ban airplanes as well. Look what can be done with them.

Good point, Imagineer! Twenty men and two 707s loaded with fuel have done more damge to America's phsyche then any number of wackos with guns saying they are going to McDonald's to hunt humans.

Speaking of fuel, how many people have been killed because someone burned down a building using gasoline. We'd better ban gasoline too.

On the subject of liquids, lets ban water! It can be contaminated, shark infested, and people can drown in water. It must be stopped. And on the subject of suffocation, we better ban garbage bags and pillows while we're at it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmf!

In the book "What Cops Know" (a book on what it's like to be a cop in Chicago, very, very interesting read btw) it was mentioned that there are a lot of barbecue fork murders in the summer. Also, an actual motive for murder was an argument on whether the star or the angel goes on top of the Christmas tree.

I'm thinking it's going to be tough getting people to stop commiting murders by banning weapons. Does make certain individuals, groups and politicians feel good when they manage to do it, however.

Icicles make the best weapons & should be banned as well. What a murder weapon! After it melts, no evidence!

I once was first on the scene when a husband had shot his wife in the eye while arguing over Chocolate Covered Cheeries the daughter had brought home from school.

I believe I worked more cases where the assault came about from the use of another item rather than a gun. Like the time a wife had beaten her husband almost to death with a stick of firewood. When I entered the scene she turned the firewood on me. This was a very large, powerful woman. I hit her with my slap-jack and she just shook her head. I had my hands full and at 6' 1" and over 200 lbs I was considered strong myself. She almost beat my ass in that small room we were in. I finally busted the slap-jack I hit her so hard, bb's flew everywhere out of it, and handcuffed her. Still took 3 guys to put her in a squad car. Husband recovered and went back home.

I think you can compare the banning of gun with knives, but not with water, vehicles...etc. Things that are not conventionally used as "hand-held weapons" that cause actual physical damage should be considered separately from guns and knives.

It makes more sense to ban guns but not knives because:

1)Although both have the potential to kill, much resistance is possible against knives, even successful retaliation or escape.

2)We don't need guns for any daily chores. But we use knives, sometimes extensively.

I can definitely understand if a government enforce restriction on knives and guns differently.

Is there no restriction on knives in the USA ? In France many knives are considered as dangerous weapons and cannot be sold to kids nor carried in public places. The same with many other potentia weapons. If a cop takes you with a baseball bat (without proper reason for carrying it) or something similar he has the right to take it from you.

I disagree it would be hard has heck to knife a duck out of the sky or run after a deer, bear, elk etc... and knife it down.

I weigh 230lbs, at one time could bench over 400lbs now if someone of my size decided to attack a 120lb person I think they would much rather have a gun then a knife?

Once again I disagree it would be much harder to hunt with a knife then a gun, and I know lots of folks that will not buy meat from a store. So there are many folks in the US and other areas that do use a gun for their daily chore.

I can definitely understand if a government enforce restriction on knives and guns differently. [

Once again we come back to the criminal using the tool of his/her choice. Regulations only affect those that go by them and I would highly doubt you will find many killers that follow the rules.

Just this past week a kid{15-16 I think} used a bat to beat a person. He is being charged with assault using a deadly weapon.

For your 1st question yes there are restrictions on knifes also.

Ban windows too! Windows have sharp things if you break them! Glass!
