I know most of you guys are up more on this computer stuff than most of us old timers but this spyware I installed is great. I did not know that I had accumulated so much in my computer. This thing found and took out 2100 various unwanted thingys.

What exactly is it you installed Dan? I'd like to take a look at it.

Yes Jere, It is a shame that people put tracing crap on your computer that you do not know about. Some of it, I understand, can cause real problems. Suprised me how much I had on mine.

Using Firefox (link in sig) can reduce the amount of stuff that gets on your computer. IE can let it automatically install without you knowing about it at its default setttings.

But for those that run IE and don't really use anything else, Ad-aware can be your friend....your best friend in some ways.

Yes, indeed. I use Ad-Aware AND Spybot semi-regularly. And also HijackThis if I have specific problem.

Ad-Aware is the best thing that's happened to my computer. I've used other programs like SpywareNuker and Spychecker...just didn't get the results with them. Never tried Spybot though, how does that work for ya?

Believe it or not...grand total exceeded 16,000.

I had an attempted pc hijack at some point too, that willed a bunch of spyware.

Spybot works really well for me. It helps to download the latest updates on a regular basis. People are always coming up with new spyware.

I installed a program called "Spy-Bloc" and the funny part is, it shows you they found215 files bad and 16 adware, etc and you click "remove" it removes them and --guess what??/ --the next time you run the program--there they are back--makes you feal like stamping SUCKER on your forhead. I think all those spyware programers and especially the promoters are a bunch of mothers pashion accidents.

I've used spybot search and destroy on my computer and it helps to keep it clean. There is also a spyware catcher provided by AOL that caught things spybot didn't.

According to the boys at Maximum PC, it's recommended that you have and use Spybot and Lavasoft's Ad Aware on a regular basis to keep out spyware.

Some kind of spyware catcher should be bundled into every computer system sold. It would be a lot more useful than the encyclopdias and the "free" offers they usually bundle on systems.

Is it free? I ran a certain spyware on mine and it took off things I needed like Java, so I had to reinstall it. I dont know the name of it though.

Spybot search and destroy is on a voluntary payment system. It costs you nothing, but they request a payment of $20.00 if you want to and can afford it.

I agree with imagineer. Spybot search and destroy is completely free.

Do yourself a favor go to either zdnet.com or cnet.com and search for Spybot, it will be easy to find and it's one of the best spyware catchers out there.

While at one of those web sites, there are hundreds of programs for your computer that you might find interesting. Anything from utility suites (you SHOULD have one of those) to programs that let you make your own cursors. Wonderful sites for computer users.

IGN.com is where i came across Ad-aware and Spybot which they recommended for clearing out your pc before installing Half Life 2 i think it was,

Anyway checked and i had a stupid amount of spyware and so they are good.

Also I use this free tool called Bazooker, which i had before spybot but i think they are the same sort of thing.
