The analogy goes like this: If god created us then he is like our parent. Isn't it natural to look up to god and follow him?

My observation is: But in our society children can judge their parents too.

When we are talking about a god in some organized religion say Christianity, a lot of his characteristics are given to us. In many threads before it was mentioned by many people that the Christian god interpreted by certian (for example, fundamental) branches of Christianity possess characteristics which make him a "bad parent".

My point is perhaps the parent/child analogy is not a very good one. Or perhaps it is a very good one which gives a perfect reason why some people can say they won't follow a certain god even if he shows up.

The parent/child thing may be good for some not good for others.
The main view that I have is that man is only guessing at the depth of any relationship. There may be none.
Religions seem to be established out of wishes, hopes and dreams of a relationship with God. They have no clue so invention abounds. The natural order of looking up to a parent figure for protection, guidance, and reassurance carries over to the God dependency. Fear of the unknown probably leads to a faith of having a loving God awaiting in the shadows of death. What better than a parent-like figure?

Staying with the parent/child anology lets invent a bad influence.
Parents feel that their children are (good). Only thru bad influence can they be swayed. Lets invent the devil to be the cause of all of mans troubles for a Loving God would certainly not allow harm or bad actions to come to or be commited by his (children). To make a religion work it must have an opposite that is the cause of all misfortune. Even the natural desires and weaknesses of the human race. The Devil gets credit for bad and the Father gets credit for all good occurances.
