The analogy goes like this: If god created us then he is like our parent. Isn't it natural to look up to god and follow him?
My observation is: But in our society children can judge their parents too.
When we are talking about a god in some organized religion say Christianity, a lot of his characteristics are given to us. In many threads before it was mentioned by many people that the Christian god interpreted by certian (for example, fundamental) branches of Christianity possess characteristics which make him a "bad parent".
My point is perhaps the parent/child analogy is not a very good one. Or perhaps it is a very good one which gives a perfect reason why some people can say they won't follow a certain god even if he shows up.
