Hey who can blame him?

I can't blame him - it's not like Bush ever paid any attention to his advice anyway. It's too bad though - he seemed to be the only check against Rummy's foreign policy goals.

Now you can add.....

Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman
Education Secretary Rod Paige
Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham

stepping down.

Condi Rice will be the next Secretary of State.

Her negligence was responsible for the worst tragedy on american soil and she gets a promotion. Goes to show you the rewards of playing ball with the Israelis and Saudis.

It's an appointed position, Korg. Besides, Rice is already slated to fill the spot.

Yeah, where was she in 1995 when the plot was hatched and the planning started. Shame on her

Unless I'm mistaken, 9-11 happened on her watch. Spin that.

I believe he meant when the idea first came into play, not when the event actually happened.

9-11 did not happen on the clinton watch -- it happened on the bush, cheney, rice, powell ... and there's nothing that will remove the blood from their hands.

As was pretty well suspected Rice is getting her job.

Now that Powell is available. The Democrats should adopt him and run him as a democrat in 2008 Presidential elections.

Powell has no credibility left.

He outright lied to the UN about the WMD's same as he outright lied and covered-up the Mai Lai massacre 35 years ago. The dems have no use for him.

This is far from the truth. Powell has a huge credibility. His life story is impressive to say the least.

Multiple military positions, from grunt in Vietnam, division comander, chairman of the joint chiefs.

White house fellow, cap winebergers assistant, National security advisor, secretary of state.

The state dept is a big organization, the NSA is a direct filter to the president - two very different roles. Condi may do well as secretary of state - she is a university beurocrat afterall.

Colin Powell was by far the most respected person in the Bush administration. Far more respected than Bush.

The question now is...Will Rice to a better or worse Job than Powell?

Worse. :)

It's unlikely she can do a better job internationally.

Powell was very respected throught the world, he has a wealth of background that Condi does not have.

Condi is seen as Bush's close friend, it's unlikely she will hold as much credibility.

But, lets see - she might well do a fine job.

Powell didn't want to take the wmd story to the UN because it was questionable at best -- pretty thin to say the least.

He gambled with his credibility and lost.

Powell lied -- troops died.

It's really off the wall to say Powell lied, or anybody lied.

Just because something turns out to be wrong doesn't make it a lie.

Back to Condi - the NSA job was created after WWII to be a special advisor that can bring together the competing depts opinions into a unified message for the president. That is the NSA role - really Condi did a bad job of that - there was never any unified position between State & Defense.

Here's another question from my big bag of hypotheticals...

Will Rumsfield resign within a week or two, a year or two, or will he fulfill his entire term?

If I were Rumsfield I would resign because if Bush needs a fall guy he is next in line.

Rummy will resign only if we are lucky.

That guy should have been fired long ago. It's hard to imagine that Rummy once had Presidential aspirations.

Is there anyone in Bush's cabinet besides Powell that you liberals like?

When he said he has EVIDENCE about WMD and the WMD turned out to be nowhere... That's a lie.
He probably was very embarrassed about havinfg to say that, but he did it, knowing his "evidence" was very unreliable.

No,

You can have evidence and that evidence turn out to be wrong.

Lie is a very strong word. Mistaken is the better word.

To imagine that Colin Powell would sit there and lie is not credible an argument.

DaveTooner

These far left liberals have trouble with this word "lie." It isn't a lie unless you know it isn't true.

Lungdop Philing

It was, at the time, well published that Powell didn't want to take the WMD evidence to the UN because he felt the evidence was on shaky ground. IIRC, it even came out during the 911 commission. This isn't a secret. The whole world knows and understands Powell lied to the UN -- the whole world other than this forum that is.

Garbage.

Even shaky evidence doesn't constitute lying. Powell presented the evidence they had. This evidence was understood by the UN and many other countries. Lying would have involved making up evidence.

If Powell did lie, there is no reason to think that he either knew he was lying at the time or wanted to lie if he did. I bet Cheney forced him... o.O For some reason that I dont understand, I actually have some respect for Colin Powell. I believe he is the least evil of all the Bushies, and Cheney is the most evil. :p Condi is evil as well, plus I think shes screwing Bush, LMAO. Did you know she has an oil tanker named after her?

Colin Powell deserves respect. In a Cabinet full of warmongers, he was the one cool, deliberative, wise man. He shall be missed.
