wow...its past 2am...im tired. As i write this, looks like Bush is gonna pull this one out. He's ahead by 103,000 votes in ohio(51%-49%), and is well ahead in New Mexico (52%-47%)....giving him 274 votes, and thus the presidency.
They say provisional ballots are still out there....well im glad to say i filled out a provisional ballot...so Bush is gettin some reenforcements from me.
4 more years eh?

Not just the provisional ballots, but also all absentee ballots recieved since last Friday. I understand that they need 11 days before they can certify a vote total. The lawyers for each side can challenge anything during that time. This is all going to wind up in the Supreme Court again, and it is uncertain whether Justice Rehnquist can participate. It could wind up deadlocked 4-4 there. Can you say constitutional crisis.

If it's just counting the privisional ballots - then this must of course be done, but it's hard to imagine how Kerry could catch up even with those. The problem will arise if they then take it a step further & go looking for new votes by recounting / challenging etc.
If it's close, then the provisionals will be in play & the nation must of course wait for that.
This electoral college thing is the most stupidest thing - hopefully they will again try to make a constitutional amendment & switch to the more sensible popular vote.

Two Ohio senators telling Kerry to concede

I think it's really sad how Kerry/Edwards insist that they still might have won. I guess they'll whine and cry and sue, hoping to delay the inevitable. To me, they just confirm their characters as the type to be sore losers, rather than graciously accepting the decision of the American voters.

At the time you posted this there was still a chance, although very slim, that they could win...so why would you insist they concede when its not officially over and all the votes are not counted? Are you the same way when you watch sports? If a football team is down by 20 with 3 minutes to go, do you say "why are they still trying to win, why not just admit defeat and walk off the field?" If they still have an outside shot at winning then what is your problem? If you can't wait a few more hours for something this important then find a hobby to take your mind off it. And since he conceded in a reasonable time, be as big of a man as Kerry and appologize if you have not already.

first of all, jumping karankawa for an incorrect prediction about the democratic partys post lection actions is silly. they did have an army of lawyers and leer jets on standby, and they were relying on provisional ballots, which is desperate at best. we have not come in here gloating and pointing out all the wrong predictions of a kerry landslide and crushing bush defeat made by several members of this board. gloating that a guy was wrong about how long kerry would fight the results looks a little desperate in itself, desperate to just be right about something.
about the football analogy. you were right that you dont give up on your team with 3 minutes to go and they are down by 20. the difference is, your team doesnt ahve a bunch of referees storm the field waving rule books showing why your team should get a few extra yards out of every play, all they way until they reach the end zone and win.

Agreed. Even I thought Kerry and the Democrats would wage a long legal war over this.

Man, that is a great analogy IMO. Great overall post also.

It didn't sound like a prediction, but if it was then I stand corrected. It sounded like a criticism because they did not concede fast enough which made them "sore losers". And where did I "gloat"...I don't even know what there was to gloat about.

Not relevant, because they did not bring out the lawyers, or demand recounts. They played out the rest of the game in a normal manner by waiting for the votes to come in then the graciously conceded defeat.

IMO if the vote had been anywhere close, there is no doubt in my mind that the lawyers would have been brought into play. Why else would they have had them flying in before the vote was completed? I think Kerry realized it was a lost cause, remembered what an ass Gore made of himself 4 years ago, and simply did what he should have done.
