"Soldiers from a Fort Carson combat unit say they have been issued an ultimatum - re-enlist for three more years or be transferred to other units expected to deploy to Iraq.

Hundreds of soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team were presented with that message (http://rockymountainnews.com/drmn/state/article/0,1299,DRMN_21_3185596,00.html) and a re-enlistment form in a series of assemblies last Thursday, said two soldiers who spoke on condition of anonymity."

Yeah.......everyone's lookin' forward to dyin' for DUMBYA!!!!!! (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A31689-2004Sep18.html)

"The 635 soldiers of a battalion of the South Carolina National Guard scheduled to depart Sunday for a year or more in Iraq have spent their off-duty hours under a disciplinary lockdown in their barracks for the past two weeks.

The trouble began Labor Day weekend, when 13 members of the 1st Battalion of the 178th Field Artillery Regiment went AWOL, mainly to see their families again before shipping out. Then there was an ugly confrontation between members of the battalion's Alpha and Charlie batteries -- the term artillery units use instead of "companies" -- that threatened to turn into a brawl involving three dozen soldiers, and required the base police to intervene."

Soldiers are being denied the right to leave when their enlistment is up. Soldiers are being kept in Iraq after their enlistment is up.

National guard troops are fighting battles on foriegn soil. (Originally the National Guard was set up as a military group meant to defend the homeland in case of attack. They were never meant to be sent oversees to fight foriegm wars.)

If our homeland was attacked today we would not have the personel available here in the states to counter the attack.

Dubbya went into this war unprepared and with no plan. Against the recomendations of his generals and against the recomendations of our intellegence community and against the world communities recomendations.

OUr soldiers are suffering due to his blatant disregard for their welfare and the welfare of our country.

No they are being told that they can be retained for the eight year mark even if they signed up for 3 or 4. This is not a draft, this is a duty obligation. Get it straight.

You can call it anything you want. Forced labor is just that.

One of the reasons we invaded Iraq is because Saddam was forcing people to fight for his causes.

Interesting. dubbya is now doing one of the things that he used as a reason for overthrowing Saddam.

Forcing a person to fight a war for you and threatening to lock them up for life if they don't. We aren't that different from Saddam now are we. He killed people if they didn't fight, we lock them up for life if they don't fight.

Heil Bush. (snaps heels together).

Look, these guys know what they are getting into. If you are in the military you can be called into action at any time. Thats the way it goes. If they didn't want to do that, they shouldn't have joined.

So you are pissed off because I'm excersizing my freedom of speech and you don't like the content. You insunuate that since my speech doesn't follow your party line I should leave the country. Boy do you have a twisted idea of what democracy and freedom means. This is typical republicanism and shows just how close the GOP are to being fascists. If you don't say what they want you to and don't jump on their fascist bandwagon, they call you a traitor and tell you to leave the country. Hiel bush, (clicking heels together - again).

wow, its funny how WE act as if we have the last say. " they joined, so fuckin deal with it " huh ? first its "stand behind your soldiers, if you dont believe in this war, then you dont support the soldiers." your unamerican if you dont support this war, along with the soldiers". now its," hey thats their fault, they should have thought about this before they joined.......wow. but in the mean fuckin time, these guys families are losing homes , and spouses leaving them because they have no means............but you guys will come up with the partisan answer of " shut the fuck up, there's plenty of programs for them to get money for GI's families..........but thats why they are losing homes, and cant pay bills.....i would have nothing to say about them being forced to stay if this govt , dem or repub, would just give the families what they need. you guys think everything is so cut and dry, but it isnt. if everything was done so right by these guys by our govt, then why did they have to take the govt to court because of agent orange.........everyone says that they care about the soldiers.......but love is not a word, its an action..........so is care !!!

The most patriotic thing to do is to have a dissenting opinion. Because once (hopefully) Kerry gets in office, we will be hearing Trav attack, criticize and blame Kerry for everything. But as of now, we liberals are “commies” since we “blame America first”…but that perspective only comes around when their party is in office.

if kerry wins, i hope every republican on this forum remembers what they defended about that jackass bush, because being a polititian, kerry will likely do some unsavory shit, then, the hypocrisy will fly.;

What do you mean? Please elaborate.

Perhaps the treatment of the troops is behind the reluctance of the administration to allow the troops access to absentee ballots. In a close election, it would be an interesting headline to find that the troops had voted out the Commander in Chief.

What do you mean? Please elaborate. what i mean is that to me, politics is politics, and polititians are polititians. we (joe public) are the ones that make the distinction between the parties. polititians think they do, but the only difference is raise taxes or lower taxes. everything else is the same , to me. now, i'll argue because i love a good debate, but all in all, i no more trust democrats than i do republicans, because whenever there is money involved, there is always some crookedness. in buffalo, we seem to have a utility rate hike every year. i mean 30 to 40 %. whenever the utility wants to raise the rates, polititians, democrat and republican alike, stand in front of the comapny, and ask joe public to sign petitions to say that we dont want the hike. and then they tell us to show up at the public forum to voice our opposition to the hike. when the hundreds of people finish telling the board how we dont want the hike and we just had one last year, they look at us in this condescending manner, go to their back room and pass it anyway. like clockwork it never fails....every year ! to me, the polititian knows this, it just makes him look like he actually cared. polititians will say that they care about the people, but the personal agenda seems to outweigh what the people want. i have a radio program thats getting very popular because i rip polititians, dem and rep, and especially black ones. my point is, when kerry gets in office, i hope the republicans here remember the defense they put up for bush's bullshit, because kerry is gonna do some dumb shit too. whenever a party is in office, the opposition gets their turn to rip the dumb shit that party does, but it always comes back to haunt them when their party is in office because they are gonna do some dumb shit too. sorry so long, but wanted to make the point. hope it makes sense

I don't think he was trying to saying the way you feel about politics is "bullshit", I think he was agreeing with you about the fact that, "it's (the politics you described) just such bullsh1t." You get way too defensive at times korg...

P.S. Thanks for the explaination.
