Inspired by the fact that I just got licensed today -- and having bought my car three weeks ago -- what do you all drive? I think this sort of thread was made a loooong time ago...but let's give the newer members a chance to respond!

91 Nissan Stanza. Grey. 48,000 miles. Cold air. It's served me well for...about three hours. :D

Umm…I don’t drive yet…

But when I drive I’ll either drive my mothers…2001 Mini Van or my Dad’s BMW.

But they said they’d buy me a car…so hopefully it’ll be something cool! They said it has to have air bags, and be big because I’m a “reckless teenager” so any tips?

DAMMIT, I bought my own damned car...all these people get cars bought for them and I had to WORK for mine...

But for you, I would go with a 92 and up Toyota Camry or Avalon (older Avalons would be called Cressidas), OD...I do like the Japanese cars...

I have a nice car and a crappy work truck.

I got a green 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix that has about 7,000 miles on it, cd player that cost way too much but is very nice, leather interior, AC, and XM.

I also have a 94 Ford Pickup that is a kind of Blue Purple mix, standard clutch and regular radio with a faint hint of AC.

Needless to say I usally drive the Prix.

How on earth could you have afforded that Pontiac, Jere? You're only goddamned 16...

It usually feels better when you earned it though....

My first car was an '88 Pontiac Grand Prix...the kind with the 2.8L engines that sound like machine guns when you rev it up:). That car was given to me by my parents when dad was allowed to use his company car as a personal car.

That was just over a year ago, now I drive a '97 Eagle Vision. Sunroof, rear spoiler, CD player (bought myself), Traction control, cloth seats, currently just over 122,000 miles....a damn nice car for someone like me. as for payment, my parents and I split the cost in half, so I didn't wind up being TOO poor after that one.

The deal on ours is, I pay for the insurance and they bought me the car.

I also bought the XM and the cd changer myself. I just recentally had some neon put it, and when I get my class ring paid off, I'm going to get a speed adjusting spoiler put in.

That ring is going to be a pain though, sheesh, I'm going to be in debt.

Oh, and I want one of those model t horns on the truck, lol.

Oh please no! Don't make me tell you why more downforce on the rear of a front-wheel drive car is bad.

Anyway, I drive a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5S. With a stick. :D

I still drive my first car a 97 Nissan Sentra with 60000 miles on it. Got it right after high school graduation. I never had a car all throughout high school, so whether your parents baught it or you earned it, those of you who are in high school and driving are pretty lucky.

LOL.

It wasnt quite as easy as it sounds.

I had to save up enough money from a job to prove I could pay insurance. I bought the cd changer, the xm, I put some neon in it, I payed for all that on my own. Oh, and I got my own rims. They payed for the canvas, I payed for the artwork, lol.

First car was a 1955 Chevy 2 door sedan, with a V8 & a floor shifter installed by me. In-between that, and what I'm driving now there's been about 20 or so sets of car keys.

Presently there's 2 vehicles in the driveway: a 1989 Ford F-150 pickup, and a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi. Both were purchased new. The truck has a stick, the Bonneville is an automatic.

What about the Carrera?

I had it ordered, had placed a down payment ... not on a Carrera but on a C4 coupe with tiptronic, and then we learned that along with every other medical problem my spouse has been handed, was a diagnosis of lupus. What the insurance hasn't picked up has come out of my pocket. The dealership very reluctantly gave back most of the deposit, but held onto the remainder for their efforts. Someone else is now driving my 2d retirement ride, and I've had to go back to work. There was no easy way to share this info - and then after 30 days of no postings to that thread, it disappeared. I knew full well at some point, Lionel, that you'd ask, & here's the answer. If I'm lucky, both my spouse & the Porsche are still in my future. I'm looking to unload the SSEi at some point for the new model with the Northstar motor, but that's not happening anytime in the near future.

Damn, sorry I asked. But spouses always win out over dumb things like cars. I hope she's doing well.

Not completely impossible. The hard part would be trying to keep the Ford computer happy since the Hemi wouldn't have all of the sensors and such things a 1994 truck would have. Unless it's a new Hemi, in which case you've got even more fun ahead of you.

What is a hemi? I hear the term a lot. Is it some kind of engine?

lol - I'm definately not a motor head.:(

Yes, it's a specific kind of engine with hemispherical heads (specifically, this means that the top of each chamber is shaped like a half of a sphere). Very common way back in the fifties and DaimlerChrysler is resurrecting it in a few of their vehicles, specifically select Rams and the new Magnum, as well as the Chrysler 300. All you really need to know is that a Hemi generally equals more power.

Unless you really need the extra power, that might be more trouble than it's worth...

Jere, a young friend of mine has a Ford Ranger pickup that he has put a 350 Chevy engine in. Has a floor shift and 4 barrel carb.
Worked out real good and has tremendous power.

Es, my first car was a 59 Chevy Impala convertible. Metal flake gold, rolled gold interior, 4 speed Hurst shifter with cure ball on top. Had a built 348 engine. It ruled the quarter mile.

Times have sure changed. Bought it in 66 like new for $350.

Those '59's sure had some good wings for rear fenders. I learned to drive in a '60 Bel Air.
