As many of you know, South Korea reported hearing a huge boom and seeing a huge clown acend somewhere in or off the coast of North Korea.
There are apparently two sides of this story.
Colin Powell is saying that its not likely, while CNN reported administration officals say they are looking into it, quote, very carefully.
So whats the story here? Whats your opinion?
Did North Korea test a nuclear bomb?

Really? did it have rainbow hair, a big red nose, floppy shoes, and was named "Bozo"? Could it possibly have been Bush's haloween costume? j/k...sorry man, had to do it.
Anyway, I vote indifferent....it really could have been anything.

My gut reaction is that they did not. I would suspect that our government knows for sure one way or the other, since we have satellites that monitor such things, and I would also suspect that we are keeping an eye on North Korea.
The explosion was in a remote area, but if it was a nuclear bomb radiation would have drifted somewhere.
I also think it would be to George Bush's advantage if they had tested a bomb, so if we had any proof that they did we'd have heard about it by now. They probably just had another major industrial accident.

N. Korea says it was part of a construction project. Looks like they might allow outsiders to come in and verify.

LMAO
but really, this north korean thing is a little scary. 60% of the country is military, and they are loyal, and i believe that if one of those guys step wrong during their march, he'd be shot. they thrive on showing how ready they are, and i ask this question again, are we ready to fight them right now if we have to ?

I think we would also have to wonder about what China has to say about any military action we would take with North Korea. If they were to agree to back off and let us handle things, from a military perspective i think we could show North Korea the errors of their ways. But all bets are off if we piss China off.

China has got to be terrified that something like this is happening. They want to be as involved as possible to see what's going on since the two countries share a border. I don't see North Korea really trying to attack anyone with anything anytime soon. Too many allies of ours and those who just don't like N. Korea surround them and would most likely take action of their own preference if attacked.

It will defanately be good if inspectors can go in and see whats happening.
Let them do their jobs.

I do worry about N Korea. I hope it doesn't turn out to be another Iraq.

Well, I hope it does have one characteristic with Iraq, and thats that either have weapons of mass destruction.

Korea is not a favorable place to have a war. The terrain is treacherous, the climate miserable. Tanks don't work very well in rugged mountains.
North Korea continues to be in dire straits. There is rampant poverty & famine. It is a very desperate country.

N Korea would fold quickly in a war. I remember in 1991 when we were going to attack Iraq, tehywere the worlds thrid largest army, well trained and equiped, loyal, blah blah blah, that wasnt the case. even this last war they were supposed to bleed us dry during the intial assault with fire pits and mines and poison gas. N Korea would get their ass handed to them quickly

I think the great danger with North Korea is that we really don't know what would happen if we attacked them.
On one hand their country seems to be on the verge of collapse, but on the other hand it's a very rugged country and they have lots of guns. Their children have been extensively indoctrinated to hate Americans, and they may fight out of desperation.
Add the nukes into the mix and you have a very dangerous situation.
listen, we are having a hard enough time with the few stragglers in iraq, have you seen the army in n.korea ? we have always had a hard time with asian countries, give me a break, it would not be a cake walk of any kind.......that is a dangerous war ! i gaurantee. you dont see iraqis in planes, they are just on the ground giving us fits, koreans will be plane flying kamakazees, with nothing to lose......we will not be going there, but if we did, there would be a draft the next day !

I absolutely agree.
The morale of the military is too low to get into a conflict with an army as serious and loyal as the Koreans.
Im not saying that our soldiers arent loyal, but they have been doing back to back duties, some of which have only been home a few weeks sense the inital war on terrorism started....and now the possibility of going to war with Korea and maybe Syria waits in the shadows.
Its scary times.
