A milestone in Iraq...and it's not a good one. Now would be a good time to really think about what's going on over there and try to do something serious about it.

we have reached 1000, over a year after the invasion. I remember those who opposed the war saying we would have 10's of thousands in the first weeks alone. I remember news story about how the army ordered 10,000 body bags. It is sad when any soldiers die in battle, and it will be sadder to see those with a political axe to grind exploit them for their own selfish reasons.

It will be sadder if no one stands up and takes notice that these kids are over their dying when they shouldnt have to be.

Oh, and Bush hasn't done and isn't still doing the same exact thing with 9/11? This would be the perfect time for someone to finally step in and explain why exactly all those brave men had to die. Too bad that explanation won't come from the man who sent them there.

Bush wont and cant explain anything.

It's sad to think we're still over there for reasons that are, to me, still unclear. We're putting a lot of weight on GWB's shoulders and I think its right that we do so. Our Army/Reserves probly are gonna take a dip once this is all said and done.

This coming from the guy who supports the Pres who started a war with no plan on rebuilding afterwards or fighting off the inevitable terrorists. LOL...

ya, there was no plan whatsoever, whatever. I suppose that why there is a provisional iraqi government and elections planned. perhaps you should say that the plan has met resistance form those who dont want a free iraq. Do you think if there were no terrorists in iraiq there would still be no plan? you clearly have no idea what ishappening over therre. all you see are casualty reports and assume the worst. typical defeatist attitude. you see 1000 deaths as a sign of defeat. If you went back to the weeks before the launch of the war and said at this point in tme saddam would be in prison and defeated and we had sustained 1000 deaths you would have said impossible. I know this because people like you were saying there would be 10's of thousands of deaths in the initial street fighting.

First off, we don't know the body count. We believe 1000 (actually it's up to 1004 already) because that's what FOX news tells us. The same thing happened during Viet Nam. The media did a good job of hiding the body count but the day came when they built the wall and there was no longer any doubt about the count - ~58,000.
Also, Viet Nam started out slow with only a few hundred killed in the first couple of years but once it got traction there was no holding back and that's where we will be next year.
Two sidenotes -- the media claims the troops say that 1000 deaths is meaningless. Well let the troops tell that to the parents, husbands, wives, brothers and sisters of the 1000 dead.
And-- the 1st Iraq War nominee for a Congressional Medal of Honor has been named. He was a marine killed when he threw his body on a gernade to save his fellow soldiers and shipmates.
He was from a small town in upstate NY -- thought I'd pass this along.

I fully agree Dop.
The longer we stay the worse its going to get. For us, for them, and eventually for the world.

People thought and predicted there would be more deaths because they believed the lies bush told us about WMD.
I think it is sad that there are people stupid enough to vote for a man who is a proven liar.
I think it is sad that there are people who are blind to the GOP's fascist leanings and how fanatical it has become in the last four years.
I think it is sad that our young men and women have to die because of a lieing, fascist, drug useing religious fanatic.
I think it is sad that republicans actually believe we can force democracy on people at gun point.
It will be truly sad if bush is re-appointed. His next target will be either Iran or N. Korea. God help us all.

And neither of these two targets' armies will fall like Iraq's. Especially with the way our genius Commander in Chief has spread our military too thin.

If we ever invade anyone else, we better make sure we're out of both Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as have some down time to boost troop morale. Attacking any of the mentioned countries will surely spark worldwide hatred towards Americans even further.

Very good point.
And really in a sense weve killed whole familes over here. I seen on tv...that a girls father, husband, and the father of her child had all died in the same week over there.
I dont know how if I could handle something like that.

True...
But in your post mentioning the fear of death of 10 thousands of people....you made no mention of them being all American.
And does the fact that they are Iraqi's make the statistic less horrible?

Any death is a horrible death, no matter who it is.

Yes it is sad Travh.
You dont have to act like its not, just because you are supporting the man responsible for it.
We are all humans...you can scoot away from him from a second and say a lot of these deaths if not all of them never needed to happen.
whats even sadder, is the fact that no one is talking about the guys who lived after getting hit by bombs. yes, im talking about the wounded ! AND, bush is NOT going anywhere near N. KOREA ! first of all, there's nothing to gain from it, second, they are building WMD's, which proves my last point, we are not in iraq for any of the reasons stated by bush. do you think that he actually cares about the plight of the iraqi people ? he is a lying ass polititian, just like most polititians, dem or rep. what he did was to rely on the fact that we go more along partisan thoughts than common sense thoughts, and if he could just get the republicans to back him on this because of party orientation, then we would just be divided 50-50. that way he doesnt look so bad. we all have to start looking at this for what its worth. i would not want my son or daughter fighting this war because of the inconsistancies of the reason we're over there ! its all a lie, and not worth ONE life !...." news flash, osama bin laden and alqiada have taken full responsibility for the world trade center bombings".....bush: that damn osama, we're gonna make sure the man that did this pays" we will get that saddam hussein !.......huh ? why doesnt it seem fishy, it would if he were clinton !
