I saw these on TomPaine.com today.

GOP does not represent America (http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/2004-08-30-moore-gopamerica_x.htm) - By Michael Moore

A Tale of Two GOPs (http://www.thenation.com/capitalgames/index.mhtml?bid=3&pid=1727) - By David Corn

I think these two editorials really hit the nail on the head.

The only thing i'll grace Micheal Moore's name about is that he's about as significant as a pimple on the posterior of an elephant. Micheal Moore shouldn't be looked to for answers.

Notice I said OPINIONS of the left. I'm not teling you to agree with Michael Moore, I'm just telling you what he thinks. And he does represent a large portion of America...I'd say roughly half.

Decka
08-31-2004, 05:19 PM
all he did was make a movie....nobody voted him to represent half of america. He represents his own opinions and thats all.

You should have put MM, or something, or not referenced him at all! See what you did, you threw the neo-cons into a fit, there was a slim(about .01%(or maybe they just don't know how to read)) chance that they would have read it, you dropped that chance to 0.0000%.

LOL, ya, micheal moore is a complete idiot. has anyone noticed he has gotten fatter? I think I figured out why there are so few mainstream "documentaries" these days, micheal moore has eaten all the independent film makers, leaving only himself

I wonder how different it would be if Michael Moore were republican and were prasing Bush?

I bet these GOPers would flip backwards to have someone like him on their side.

Typical response from the right wing. They love to bring in the physical attributes of Mr. Moore, and sink down to a level of a 3rd grader.

It's a good thing that us folks on the left never make fun of Ann Coulter. He is a very attractive man.

The Republican Party's leadership knows America is not only filled with RINOs, but most Americans are much more liberal than the delegates gathered in New York.

The Republicans know it. That's why this week we're seeing gay-loving Rudy Giuliani, gun-hating Michael Bloomberg and abortion-rights advocate Arnold Schwarzenegger.

~Mr. Moore.

Yep, the RNC is trying to play "middle" but really this Administration is so far right wing, most Republicans don't see it.

ya, and the democrats were really being who they were at thier convention, give me a break. they had to force themselves to not say anything bad about bush. I guess they have forgotten about all the shit they have been saying the past 4 years about the guy, everything from stole the election, to illigitamate, to he knew about 9-11 to he cooked up the war in crawford. its so lame. their weak attempt to look like they were taking the high road only made them look like a bunch of phonys.

I didn't see the RNC last nite so have to ask --

Did Arnold really call all disenters "girlie men" -- that same old line he stole from SNL? And what did he mean by that statement? Did he mean that there will no longer be any such thing as fiscal responsibility and balanced budgets? Paleocons won't like that attitude.

How does the 'girlie man' meme work out for women? Do women who are pessimistic about their economic futures become girlie-men? Do they become more effiminate or less so in Arnold's machisimo world? You can bet your life that sexist statement cost the gop some votes. LOL.

Also did he really raise his hand, Hitler style, and start chanting like 'Der Fuerer'? Geeesh, I used to think he was just a fascist but now it looks like his daddy is rubbing off on him and it's more correct to call him a Nazi. After all, he did invite Kurt Waldheim to his wedding. LOL.

I also heard he did a Nixon-worshiping BJ scene. Does this guy really think that he knows more about american history than the average american. Does he really think no one remembers Watergate except him? Here's a bulletin for the nazi POS -- I forgot more about our great country than that imposter will ever know. One thing he apparently doesn't know -- implying Nixon was some great statesman scared off a whole bunch moderate republicans. ROTF. Besides that, with a middle name like 'Milhaus' who would ever forget the guy?

And wtf was he talking about with his mumbling Austria being under Soviet domination. I don't remember ever hearing about that but a little rewriting of history is not unusual for gop shills.

Keep up the good work Arnold.

ROTFLMAO

I didn't watch the convension, but the quote I heard on the radio was him calling people that think the economy isn't improving "economic girlie men." All other things aside, the "girlie men" line is getting old, especially when he didn't even invent it.

I liked Arnolds opening line, "I made a movie called True Lies. That's what they should have called the Democratic National Convention."

Michael Moore is EXACTLY what he condemns. An opportunist who preys on peoples misfortune and tragedy to make a buck. He is a sorry excuse for someone to "look up to."

I've been watching this convention from the start. What a joke. They are putting the few middle of the road republicans up to speak. These people do not represent the fascist neocon administration that Bush controls. They disagree with him on most issues and many of them didn't even want his endorsement when they were running for office. They are only doing it so they can continue to get money from the party.

Arnold’s tribute to Nixon was a joke. Nixon was a crook and we all know it. Now the republicans are holding him up as their icon. Boy are they desperate. According to Arnold I am a "girlieman" since I understand economics and can read a spreadsheet. Does that make me more or less feminine? Will I start scratching myself and grunting or will I start dancing around in a tutu? ....Oh no - my boobs are shrinking, I'm turning into a girlieman.

Laura Bush was a joke too, she rattled on so long about how wonderful her husband was that I almost had a saccharin meltdown. If she'd gone on any longer they would have had to start passing insulin out to the audience. Does that woman have a single thought of her own?

Dubbyas daughters managed to embarrass their grandmother quit well. One of them actually made the statement "My grandparents think sex in the city is something married people do but don't talk about". So much for class and upbringing. There was a pregnant silence from the audience. It was sad.

Don't get me started on the Heil Hitler salute. It was shocking. And the scary part is that the delegates loved it. Those people are either as dumb as rocks or they are deaf and blind.

Austria has never been under soviet rule during Arnold’s lifetime. The usual gop-re-write history trick. These people wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the face.

The put their token black guy up on the first day. He made nasty remarks about Obama and then rattled on about how the Republican Party is so diverse and accepting of all people and ideas. I think they should have passed out gag bags for that speech. Even the republican audience was smirking at those lies.

All in all it has been pretty much what I expected. They have lined up every well known middle of the road republican to try and make their party look less fascist and neocon in a desperate attempt to win the middle of the road voter.

Ever notice that the Republican Party is mostly made up of very wealthy people and uneducated, white trash, rednecks?

It's going to be interesting to watch the blowback from making the RNC platform concentric to pro-choice and pro-gay by featuring Arnold and Rudy.

Normally one could just blow it off as the shell game, where they present THIS over here (wink-wink, nod-nod) but their true intentions are THAT over there.

Not this time. Arnold and Rudy are very much key figures in the gop with one constantly being rumored as possible VP choice and the other being groomed for the Presidency itself via an ammendment to the constitution.

The Bob Jonses and Pat Robinsons aren't going to like it.

Yes, they're clearly putting the moderates on display to appeal to the undecides. As usual, however, someone on the far-left has decided to undermine any points they might make with crap like calling them fascists. So much for trying to look intelligent.

She should've talked about Bob Dole? Or criticized her husband? There are plenty of legitmate complaints to make about the GOP or convention. Instead you come up with this?

Undecideds?

Those people know how they are going to vote and do no more than use that title to lavish in the attention-getting limelight which, supposedly the entire election revolves around. Probably stems from being grounded by their parents one too many times.

Over the last 3.5 years, you have either liked the tax cuts, the phoney war and benefited from the Halliburtons of the world or you were pounded hard on your job, your health care and your kid's educations. There is little to be undecided about.

Can anyone else not wait until Dick Cheney gives his speech tonight.

His riviting voice will be just what I need after all this AP American History Homework to send me into a lights out sleep.

Last night, as he watched the govenator give his speech, his fricken watching glare bored me half to death. Atleast when Bush is on, he gives you something to laugh at.

Dick Cheney is more plane than the strait lines on his heart beat chart.

You're in AP US History? Blib and I are taking it too (I'm working on the first paragraph about the British and American (dis)advantages during the revolutionary war). What do you think if it so far? Seems pretty easy to me, but that could change fast :D .

I am a huge history buff, and the information is easy, its just so friggen time consuming.

Tonight we got to do a open resonse comparing the great awakening to modern day preaching.

On top of that we have a 9 front and back page packet of information on the foundation and causes of the revolution.

And we have to do cornell notes over the chapter.

Tomorrow we start a project on colonial colleges, have to do a powerpoint on it.

On top of all that homework, I got a packet of Spanish 2, and a couple pages of Geometry. Thank god we had a test in pre-ap english or I would been really really screwed.:@@:

I wouldn't be too quick to defend them trav -- everyday they are charging more and more troops with very serious crimes putting to rest that old saying "it was just a few bad apples". It runs deep and wide and that is becoming more apparent everyday.

No, I am quick to defend them, becasue I was one of them and still am in my heart. I know how combat troops on theground are, and I know they are not a bunch of fucking murdereres ad sadists. Sure, tehy may be a few of those, there are in every segment of society, bu they are not the mainstream as you like to imply. Anyway, answer this, out of the 120,000 troops there, how many would you say commit serious war crimes dop?

Lungdop Philing
09-02-2004, 03:59 PM
You weren't one of them trav unless when you served you were torturing and raping people. That not being the case, you were an american soldier doing his duty to his country. The people being charged are not doing their duty as expected. They are doing their duty as they feel like doing it -- rogue and dangerous.

There's a big difference and it those rogues that are the problem -- not the entire united states military.

Dop

Travh20
09-02-2004, 04:05 PM
dop, the problem is,dont draw a distinction between regular soldiers and war criminals, you just say "them" and "they" It would be like if I was refering to black criminals and constanly just said black people were commiting violent crimes, never specifiying black criminals were comimiting crimes.
