View Full Version : Avril...Poser or Not?

Honestly, this whole Anti-Avril, she’s a “poser”, has become so cliché. People need to understand that music is music. You like what you like, no matter what the image the band and or artist is presenting. But the Punks say, “She’s ruining “Punk” and making people go around with ties” And my honest response to that is, who really, honestly cares?

Personally I find some of her songs to be inspirational. And if she decides to put on bondage pants, black clothing, so be it. Why is she all of a sudden a poser, if she decides to wear these pieces of clothing? There is no “poser”, for everyone is different in some way or another. No matter if it is small, there is still a difference. There is no “poser”…and when people use this to describe her, you must let it go. These people are so far backwards in their line of hypocrisy, there is no hope.

When punks claim she has ruined the punk image itself, it’s honestly funny. From my, (key word: my) interpretation punk was about the music, not the image. Which is all so ironic to me.

I understand at times Avril can say and do things that are annoying. But don’t we all? Don’t we all make mistakes, and say things that are retarded? It’s just that Avril, being in the public eye get’s everything publicized. And that is the ultimate truth of the matter.

Basically, the Anti-Avril followers…only fuel her success in the world. They have publicized her career, and made her something better then she would have ever become. Sadly, they don’t see it this way.

I've got nothing against Avril, but some of her followers say they're "punk" for following her. Isn't following like the opposite of being punk?

Avril Lavigne are not punk because she dont kno w how to skate. she are pop singer. she are original and write her own songs.

Being punk is NOT about being able to skate. I know plenty of punks that don't skate, and PLENTY of skaters who aren't punk. Punk is about nonconformity, and of course punk music.

I haven't heard the name Deanna in years... But that's beside the point. ;)

Don't posers make the originals look good, just by imitating them? The real 'punks' should probably be happy that people are imitating her imitating them. I've said 'imitating' three times now. That's four... OK leaving now.

I was happy... You ruined my joy...

They don't make them look good. Most punks just find it obnoxious and annoying. How would you like a bunch of teeny boppers invading your lifestyle and pretending to be like you. Especially not when somebody has no idea what your lifestyle means. I heard that before the musicians with Avril mentioned the Clash, she'd never heard of them before. That's just insulting(even though I hate the Clash). Although I do have to say, punks are killing their own lifestyle. We can kind of blame it on Bad Religion, NoFx, and Green Day for bringing it into the mainstream in the first place. As true punks they should have been more careful, and not have went against their core beliefs by selling out(regardless what you think of that term, they did it. Their core ideals forbid them to do what they did, and they did it anyways, to make money). (Blink182 is not mentioned since they never prescribed to the punk values in the first place). Punk as a culture cannot survive, due to the elitism it naturaly generates.

First of all, if people had any idea of what the word Punk and punk music is, they wouldnt be calling her a poser. I am not sticking up for her, I am sticking up for punk rock.

Punk rock is music about politics/religion, you can look like whatever you want, being Punk like dressing like it and whatnot is like this http://www.bradthegame.com/jones/punk-ass-kids.jpg but you gotta listen to punk rock

Or you could be one of the biggest names in underground punk rock and dress like Mitch Clem:

it's just an image she has, just the same as britney spears or any other teen pop "artist". someone just decided that looking "punk" would be a good gimmick to help her sell records, and it worked.

I think she has a marvolous voice.....accept that first crappy song she had, where she said "take off all your preppy clothes."

That irks me....does her wearing a tie not make her preppy? Shes a rich white girl from Canada, I bet that tie is Versace satin.:p

Goddamn rich people... lol... I thought I would post something mildy interesting and mildly related to the conversation here...

The other day, I was in Wal Mart, with my mom. We saw this rack with a bunch of cute little tanktops and things which I can't tell whether they're shorts or underwear lol... So anyways, my mom wanted us to get matching sets that said "Punk rock forever" on them. Understandably, I refused. I told her that she could wear it and it would be fine, since she was actually alive when real punk existed. (I got a set that says I ROCK IT OLD SCHOOL on it, if you want to know)

Alright maybe that didn't have a point, but I'm bored.

I think Avril is pretty representative of the typical bored Canadian teen. I don't think her style of dress was premeditated in order to sell records. I think she is trying to stay as far away as possible from the pre-packaged Britney image. And good for her, because I would at least take her seriously for projecting her individualism. Just because people can identify with her point of view and imitate her style doesn't mean that she intended it that way. She has a good voice, and she is original, she's cute. Kids like that. If she started wearing a collander on her head the kids would too. Kids are dumb that way. If she sends a deeper message by refusing to conform to everyone's expectations, for kids to protect their individuality then that is what matters to me. If you are copying her outside appearance then you miss the point.

If you have to "project" your "individualism", does it really exist??

Sure why not, some whisper, some scream.

Well what I meant to say is if you have to TRY to project it....

She's overrated IMO...she's got a nice voice but she's too in love with herself, like most of the pop musicians.

....and that shows how simple-minded you are. I think Avril and Brittany are hot too...but i look beyond that to see how fake they are on the inside....that to me is very unattractive....

it all evens out to produce an all-right girl....but nothing special. Avril would never be the girl i'd want to be with thats for sure. She should peal off some of her makeup and actually be herself, not some corporate wanna-be punk image.

You don't know them personally and to make any assumptions, like you are, is so silly of you. I suggest you re-think your ideas about them, since you haven’t met them.

well hey.......i got the impression that because they were hot you thought more of them. Sorry if i mis-interpreted you, but like you said, its music....not a modeling competition.

You are so right, i have never met them......but how can you not know how they are when they parade themselves and how they want to be seen all over the teeny-bopper main stream and MTV media. Ive seen interviews....and i've seen the massive conflicts between how "good" they claim to be and how dirty and scandilous the concepts they represent are.

Sorry if i get a bit p.o.'d on the subject....but as a musician i take exception to somebody being popular only because "they are hot"......and i am welllll over myself, dont worry.:)
