This post could have went under the sports section, but I felt that under the circumstances, at least for now, it is world news.
Obviously, the world is captivated with the whole American swimming phenom Michael Phelps who is stacking up Gold like King Midus in Athens right now.
I heard recentally, that the reason Phelps wants to break the record of most Gold medals is mostly because he would like to see swimming become a mainstream sport...or atleast more than it is now.
I admit, when I first heard this, I thought is he crazy??? Swimming? Most people dont remember its a sport til the Olympics roll around...but here I am a few months later watching it everynight thinking...this guy is something special....and I want to see more of it.
It has kind of that Triple Crown Horse racing feeling to it as they come down the stretch for Gold....maybe they could set up a system of races similar to that.
I personally would like to see more of Professional swimming on TV, Michael Phelps, Ian Thorpedo Thorpe, The German guy whos name is something like Van Dugelhouser or something....they are all great.
But anyway, does anyone else think its possible for professional swimming to begin to make it more toward the mainstream....and does anyone agree with me when I say I would like it to?
(P.S. If youre sitting there saying, what in the world he is talking about, watch this guy every night at the Olympics)

I would sure as hell watch every week if it was available.
These guys are fine fine specimens..................
As for myself, I never thought much about beach volleyball until I watched the American team win the other night. I found it especially interesting that as they walked off the court after winning, one of the ladies patted the other on the ass. Wow.
As much as you think the men are fine, so are these women.
:D

Trav your "jokes" would be easier to take if A.) they were funny...and B.) you put some effort into making sure people knew you were joking....

In other words Travh: They would find the humor if you were a liberal. By the way, i found his comment funny. But since im not liberal minded im sure you people already knew i would.

You know, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why they wear sunglasses when the game is being played in doors....and then a volleyball player at school got all offended, and was like ITS TO KEEP SAND OUT OF THEIR EYES:mad:
I felt so stupid....lol anyway, that was totally random but your post made me think of it.

Yeah that was kinda dumb...anyway.....
Phelps turned down the chance to get his 8th medal so that Ian Crocker (whats the deal with all these swimmers named Ian) could get his first Gold.
This kids going to be making millions over the next four years, and I think if he keeps up this domination of the sport, especially sense hes from America....its going to get huge here.
Of course, I'm not saying that Major Leauge Baseball and Collge Basketball have anything to worry about....but Its going to be popular.
Didn't care much for the swimming, but did enjoy the little row-boat racing. :)

Yeah, I feel that.
I am getting caught up in these weird events, like Speedwalking, did anyone else see that?
The sportscaster cracked me up...this one guy was way out ahead and the sports caster was like "uh oh he might be in the running posistion, their might be a red flag called"
I was like this is great, we have olympic events for something women do to lose weight....whats next, Treadmill Marathon?

Yeah women's (and men's) volleyball rocks. I think that was Elaine Young patting Holly McPeak on the butt as they walked off -- not sure.
It's a great sport to watch live on the beach. I've seen most of the Olympians play in person and it's really an enjoyable experience. IMHO, to play at their level, you need as much stamina and cardio-vascular conditioning as professional basketball if not more.
Just run for a few minutes in the sand and you'll see what I mean.
And speaking of VB -- the 2 women teams are coming up now -- Young/Mcpeak Vs. Walsh/May. Later.

NPR said today that they can still get a bronze, but they're out of the running for gold and silver.

Well thats still impressive.
i heard something on the radio about how many countries had fewer medals than Phelps by himself today, but I dont remember now. It cracked me up, hes something else.
