It been awhile since I last posted but I have a question to ask. My high school sweatheart died yesterday from cancer. I still consider myself a friend of the family. I haven't seen or talked to her in about 10 years. Should I go to the funeral or what?

Yes, you are a family friend. I totally think you should go, since you at one point, loved this person. Just my advice! Besides, it’s better to regret doing something, then not doing it at all.

Im sorry for your loss. I think the family needs all the friends and well wishers it can get right now. I would go if the situation were the same for me.

My condolences crewchief. My feeling is that funerals are for the living, not the dead, and everyone deals with grief in their own way.

You must decide for yourself if you "need" to participate in the funeral to adequately express your grief at the passing of this person. I think you should go if you want to be there, but not go just because you think other people will expect to see you there.

I'm sorry for your loss, crewchief. By all means attend the funeral if you're in a position to do so. If you're still a friend of the family then by all means share some time with them.

I would certainly go if I was you.
