I thought after Saddam was captured and his regeme was toppled that this was supposed to be the end of everything. Why are we now fighting Al Sadr?

when someone shoots at you you shoot back. this guy has been a thorn in our side for months now and its time to end it once and for all. We dont like him, the majority of iraqis dont like him, he is cray and has crazy followers. better to take his ass out now and deal with the repercusions then pretend to be nice and let him live and carry on with his extremist crap. I am suprised we havent sniped him yet.
i will tell you this, after him, there will be another, and another, and another. we'd better be prepared to fight for years......i said a long time ago on this sight that we are using most of our military, and that if someone else were to do anything to us, we'd be vulnerable. people were saying that i was crazy, we have enough people blah blah blah......well, we are getting close to the textbook definition of a depleted army. we'd better hope nothing else comes along or we'll be the ones using WMD'S

We're fighting Al Sadr because he and his men can stay in the sun longer than 10 minutes without burning.

The factions that are figting in Iraq are fighting for what they believe to be religious freedom. Folow me on this. In America, we have mostly christians. The majority of them go about their daily life with no problem interacting with peole who have varying ideas about christianity. But there are a few who at every turn in the road want to force their religious morality and specific scripture interpretations on the rest of us by passing laws, they try to force us to live by their scriptural interpretations through government.
Islam is very much a political religion. Its scriptures talk about governing and laws and punishment and protecting the holyland. The majority of Muslims in Iraq take their religion with a grain of salt and some common sense, like most christians do. However, Islam has fanatics just as all religions do. There a sects of Muslims who interpret their scriptures in a way that tells them to fight invaders of the holy land and to fight for a government that will allow them to put their personal religious restrictions into law. These people are literally fighting for their religion.
We all know how strongly religious belifs are. Many of you feel very strongly about your god. Consider, that these people believe that they are doing their gods will when they kill invading Americans and try to keep a democratic government from solidifying. They are interpreting their scriptures in a way that tells them to do this.
Our current admisistration doesn't want to see this as a religious war. They continue to call these people terrorists in an effort to group them in with the true terroists that hate america and the western world for a variety of political, economic, religious, social and cultural reasons.
Granted these Muslim factions are useing terrorist tactics, but they are not alligned with Al Quida. Some people would like us to assume thatthey are as it makes it look like the fight in Iraq is part of the war on terror, but it is a very separate, very different war, being fought for very different reasons.
If we captured or killed every Al Quida operative today, the factions in Iraq that are fighting what they believe to be a religious war, would continue to fight on.
The war on terror and the Iraqi war are two different wars being fought for two very diferent reasons.

the sad thing is this same exact quote could have been used many times in our history. our country never did learn that downsizing the military was a dumb idea, because everytime we got into a war we had to rush around to get up to strngth. hopefuly next time we will remember and we wont cut our military down to bare bomes ever again. of course people like me have abeen advocating since the end of the revolutionary war not to cut the size of the military just because our current war is over, but no one seems to listen or learn.
