It takes place right here in todays society. I know it doesn't seem like it from the commercials, but you'd have to see it all the way to the end in order to understand everything. Personally I didn't like it very much!

Like Dunkirk said, it takes place here in America in present time (2004). I think I read somwhere that it takes place in Pennsylvania too, though that's never mentioned in the movie specifically. I loved the movie. Most people go to this movie expecting a thriller and are dissapointed when they learn it's not. I loved the movie. I wasn't sure what to expect, so I didn't go in with any expectations.
I saw it 2x actually ;)

I'd rather a movie have a twist that's fairly obvious than no story-line at all. And let's face it, there's been enough of those movies made lately. To me it's the story that's important and I think this movie had a great story-line pushing it.
I haven't seen much of Shamalayan's movies, so I'm only talking about this particular movie.

The Sixth Sense is the ultimate in twists. I dont thnk anyone seen that coming.
The best non Shamalyan twist is John Cusack's Idenity.

I agree with jerejere but I saw that coming when that con ran away and was back at the motel and when the bodies dissapeared. I thought it was a dream of somebody.
