The president of the republic is Gonzalez Macci. He was appointed after the two presidential positions were emptied. The former president had the vice president assassinated because they were from different political parties. A confusion in the elections is what caused two different political parties to be represented in the administration. Anyways, if you believe it, murder is illegal in Paraguay, so Olviedo, the former president, was exiled. Macci was next in line to take the position and all expected that he was going to call for special elections. That was his duty. He chose to finish the term. Now, the farmers are setting up road blocks and riots to call Macci to resign and bring back Olviedo. Macci only has a 10% aproval rating, so one can see what might happen. Macci has decided to tough it out by putting the National Police at full force. Interestingly, George W. Bush supports Macci because he follows the U.S. drug policy. All this puts Paraguay on the edge with August 15 as the next rumored riot date.

I was being sarcastic. But if you ever hear a liberal say that, they are being serious.
