Children Fear Charges for Subversion
Dr. Jiang Yanyong and his wife have been missing since the eve of the fifteenth anniversary of the June 4 Tiananmen Square Massacre, and are likely in the Chinese government・s unofficial custody.
Dr. Jiang is the doctor from Military Hospital No. 301 in Bejing who exposed the true situation about SARS last year and made a statement last March publicly asking for redress for the Tiananmen Square Massacre. His children have urged the Chinese government to investigate his disappearance but haven・t gotten any response yet. They are worried that their father is being secretly interrogated by the Chinese government and will be accused of ：overthrowing the state.；
Asia Wall Street Journal indicated that Dr. Jiang disappeared on the morning of June 1. He had originally planned to depart for California to visit his daughter. On that day, Jiang and his wife took an employee bus from the Military Hospital No. 301 to the American Embassy in China to apply for a visa at a scheduled appointment. However, neither arrived at the embassy nor returned home.
Oriental Daily reported that the children of Dr. Jiang got a memo from their mother on June 4, saying both of them were okay. After one week, they received notification from the government ordering them to send in Dr. Jiang and his wife・s clothes and daily products. Jiang・s children said that they are worried their father is being interrogated as to how and why his letter urging for redress for the Tiananmen Square Massacre was circulated to the public, and that their father will then be charged with subversion.
Jiang・s daughter in California made a statement the other day calling on the Chinese government to investigate the disappearance of her parents. She said she doesn・t want to speculate the cause of their disappearance. When she asked Military Hospital No. 301 on the whereabouts of her parents, they only told her the couple was safe.
