His mother testified that she has not been able to keep him home. "He was in and out, like he constantly does," she said.
I love that part. Don't try too hard to keep your kid out of trouble or anything.
Laurie Schaffner, a sociologist in the criminal justice department at the University of Illinois at Chicago, said there's a risk locking up a kid so young. "I think he is going to learn to shut down and toughen up."
Yeah, if we lock the kid up, he might learn bad things.

Agreed...bad parenting at it's worst.
Kid has a problem with authority figures for sure.
As strange as it might sound I would like for the kid to stay with me for a few months. Without HRS involved.
Some fishing, 4 wheeling and different influence about real life might change his life forever.
And yes, I would keep all vehicle keys in my pocket.

It would appear that he doesn't need the keys to drive the car.

He is 12. Good lord these parents should be the ones facing charges. Where is the father?

Now this is a very good perspective on this subject. And actually is the key of success for this kid. ( He is obviously boarded, and needs challenges in his life ). Send him alway to a camp style environment!!!!!
