If so, can you tell me if there was ever a time that it was shot down. I do believe that it has been attacked from time to time, but each time it always managed to outrun its attackers before they could do any harm. I know for a fact the the U-2 was shot down sevaral times throughout its career, the most famous of them involving the pilot Francis Gary Powers that was show down May 1st back in 1960. But as for the SR-71, I can't seems to find any information of it ever being either hit or shot down by anyone.
Anyone have any info ( with a reference) to confirm this?

The only reason it hasn't been shot down is it hasn't tangled with a russian built SU-3X or a late model Mig that has lookup/fireup capabilities and passive radar.

I don't think one's ever been shot down, but if one had I doubt we'd know about it.

Beautiful plane, very loud, I saw one in flight only once, but it really looked like it wanted to fly.

Those are great dogfighting aircraft, but the SR71 wouldn't be dogfighting anyway. About the only thing that would have a chance would be a MiG 25/31. And even that could only fly at about the same speed - not catch up. You'd almost have to pre-position the MiG in the flightpath of the SR71 to have a chance at a shot. Pretty hard to do.

My step-son works with these aircraft but he doesn't talk about them. Right now he can not even tell us where he is located.
