Dumbing it down? Keep in mind the Japanese created Godzilla

Dang it, this should have been a reply under the Akira thread instead of an all new thread itself. I need to get some sleep (I was wondering why it requested a subject)

Americans seem to enjoy taking over the credit of international fame...

Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?, Godzilla, etc..

I didn't know Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? started in Japan. I knew Japan came up with some pretty whacky gameshows.

I believe you are incorrect. The English invented Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?.

Yes - we (English) did invent the show but please don't remind us!

Talking of Japanese games shows - I am living in Japan at the moment and you should see the quality of TV programs. It took me 2 days after I arrived to invest in cable!

Once again, the Americans take fame for something they do not have complete credit for.

Are you saying that England isn't proud of the production of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire??

Just out of some curiosity, what have americans claimed credit for that they didn't come up with? By the way, I don't ever recall ANYONE explicitly claiming credit for Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? I think that since no where does anyone mention that it came from somewhere else, people just naturally assume it came from here. I don't think there's any mass-conspiracy to steal credit going on.

I suppose the idea of the show isn't so bad just the way it is produced and presented in the UK. Anyway, what's the big deal about where it originated from - it's just a gameshow.

I'm not saying people like Regis Philbin will claim Americans invented Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?, because he obviously knows it originated in England one or 2 years before that. I'm saying some ignorant Americans may think that just because this popular hit show came to their home with American contestants, it must be from their nation.

Yeah, well, I unconsciously assumed it was american. I mean, the origin of these game shows isn't exactly something that occupies my thoughts (well, until now). Actually, I do wish they showed more foreign game shows here. I saw one from Mexico once and it was probably the funniest thing I've ever seen on TV. Just out of curiosity, did Whose Line Is It Anyway? originate in England? I'm pretty sure it did but maybe just the host was British. Man that is such a great show.

You can laugh at the Japanese all you like but truthfully there animation kicks our ass.
