Excerpts of article:
"Our security has been weakened," the former ambassadors and four-star commanders said in a statement read to a crowded Washington news conference. "Never in the 2 1/4 centuries of our history has the United States been so isolated among the nations, so broadly feared and distrusted."

Ok just wondering if you live here? lol. and from the conferences i watch (bored stay at home mom lives on CNN) i have seen the opposite. i think we get a lot of respect and personality being feared is not a bad thing. says see you come here and kill innocent people and we will not stand for it.

The US is a big dog, but it didn't get any bigger today than it was 2 years ago. There are more flies today because big dog got dirty and stinky playing silly games in the gutter for the last year and half.

Dio does that include the time when we stood behind Tawain or the time when Clinton turned his back on them?
We have only gotten dirty because we have been forced to fight a war we didnt want, by the terrorist not BUsh.

Well, BV, I didn't say "blame yourself that you are losing trusts fast". It's obviously a mixture of mishandling here and there on the US part and the terrists' effort that this country as far as the Iraq situation is concerned is in a pretty bad position. Of course this is a war nobody wants. My point is, saying that US gets all these unfavorable opinions from other countries today soley because we are big is funny, because we were just as big before this whole shebang and we had more supporters then. It's arrogant to assume that other people hate you because you are the best. Arrogance sucks.
The Clinton-Taiwan situation is completely different from Iraq situation. But in short, it's clear everyone operated to their own best interest, and I have not much to say about Clinton's support nor his stoppage of support to Taiwan's defense.

Of course Tawain is not the same as Iraq but it was a moment when we looked bad once again, but when you have a free press the whole world sees your mistakes and we should see that as a good thing.
As for us looking bad it is what happens to anyone who stands up to face a reality that everyone else ignores.
If at school you befriend and protect the child everyone hates then you join that hated club by association. Well in the world when we stand up to protect ourselves in the face of a world of those afraid to make the stand then of course we will look bad.
If Spain had stood its ground and not run when attacked then maybe some of these brutal kidnappings and attacks may not be happening. The same for the Saudis allowing the gunmen to escape, negotiating with terrorists always leads to more demands and more brutal measuers to achieve their goals.
We must stand our ground in this battle if we falter even once more attacks will occur.
In Beirut when we didnt respond to the attacks we were attacked mor eoften but after a month of just ducking and ignoring the fighting they terrorist were shocked when we fought back. It was this policy that left us open to the bombing that killed 241.
I use Beirut as a reference to dealing with Terrorists because I was there, I saw how they fought us and I saw how we were not allowed to fight back for at least a month.
