View Full Version : Nostalgia-Time, In New York!!

"It is still more than two months before the Republican Party descends on New York for its four-day political convention in Madison Square Garden but nerves are already getting frayed. Inside the hall, it will all be choreographed adulation of President George Bush. On the streets outside, the scene may not be so pretty.
A coalition of political activist groups, many with anti-Bush and anti-war agendas, has served notice that it intends to make itself heard during the gathering from 30 August to 2 September. One rally, to be staged by United for Peace and Justice, expects a turnout of at least 250,000.
It does not help that New York was not Republican-friendly to begin with. The choice of Manhattan was meant as a gesture of solidarity three years after the 11 September attacks. But here Democrats outnumber Republicans by five to one. Mr. Bush is not popular. (http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=532282)"
If ya' missed Chicago '68 (http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Delphi/1553/c68other.html), don't miss NEW YORK '04!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D
A good time, to be had, by ALL!!!!

Yep!!
And, the riot was brought to us, by the cops! (http://homepage.interaccess.com/~chron96/back/mar1196/article1.html)
"During a peace rally in Grant Park, an American flag was taken down from its flagpole because demonstrators heard that the delegates at the Amphitheater voted against the anti-war plank.“
The protesters started yelling in anger ‘take it down, take it down,” Shultz said. The flag was taken down, but Shultz said it may have been the work of police officers trying to incite the crowd.“
It might have been taken down by a group of plainclothes police,” he said. “It was very odd to see these huge, burly guys come out of the crowd and take the flag down when most of the protesters were skinny students.”
Maybe your parents told you about it. (http://www.turnerhome.org/jpt/daysofrage.html)

JUst like all radicals from all eras blame someone else for your actions.
When we learn to blame ourselves for what we do then maybe we can actually be safe.
Remember Horowitz?

How fortunate (for the U.S.) that our politicians have always so deftly suspended that kind of logic......in our Grand Crusade for all the world's oil (business).

I am looking forward to seeing all these "model citizens" disrupt the lives of every day New Yorkers and the response they give to the police when they are told to move.

The Republican, you know nothing of how police forces threat most protests?
President Bush was coming to Portland, Oregon. They had a huge protest, about 50,000 people showed. I was standing on a PUBLIC sidewalk, in a REGULATED zone. I was told to "move or else I'd be arrested" and I asked "but this is a public sidewalk, and it's in regulation, why must I move?" and he said, "move or be arrested" I ended up moving, because I was young, and I didn't want to cause trouble, even though he was clearly in the wrong.
You will most likely say, “well it was not in regulation” but it was, for later that day, tons of people were standing in the same section I was. It was just showing how officers do start trouble, and TRY to start up-roars.
They TRIED to start it with me, and it didn’t WORK. But most of the time, protesters don’t stand for their requests that are not valid…and it in return blows up and becomes a huge issue (riots).
Then they blame it on the protesters for not “following orders” but really, it was an order that was not valid.
In many occasions, the police officers are unfair, and wrong. I’m not saying the protesters never cause trouble, because they do, and sometimes they are in the wrong, but the police cause just as much, if not more.

So when protesters sit in the middle of the street and refuse to move it is the fault of the police? This is one tactic amongst many being planned for the Republican Convention in NYC. If they want to protest in a peacefull, non-violent, non-destructive way then so be it. But to say protesters do not start problems is a lie. And to say I know nothing is also a lie and a false assumption...thanks for making an ass of yourself.

It used to be illegal for blacks to sit in the front of the bus, too.
Things change......a-lot-of-times.....due to civil-disobedience.
