I guess we could let the icon of torture stand to remind everyone there of the bad times in their and our history. But we could tear down th old one, build a new one and move on.
Iraq will still owe us less than most all the other countries in the world.
I am against bombing a country and the rebuilding it, but I thought liberals were for that.

Well I'm not for that at all,I'm a Liberal on a few things like rewriting the pot laws in this country. Regulating it so it's kept out of the hands of our children, just like we have done with liquir.Hell this country could pay off the national dept with the tax money earned off of taxing pot sold to concenting adults !! Instead of paying out hundreds of millions of dollars each year trying to stop it . And jailing hard working inecent people for nothing. But thats just my opion.

regulating pot laws to keep it out of the hands of children? ya, OK. why do people believe legalizing pot is going to solve all of the problems associated with it. whne was the last time the government solved any problem with more government?

I don't believe that at all, I do believe that concenting tax paying adults should have the right to choose just like one does when they go to the ABC store and buy a bottle of alcohol and take it home and sit in there own living rooms and enjoy themselfs. But no if you sit in your own living room and smoke a joint your a crimminal.Thats just plain wrong no matter how you look at it.The only reason I say government involvement is becouse then it would be easer to keep it from our children just like we have done with alcohol. No it won't stop all children from getting it just as our regulations on alcohol hasn't stopped all children from getting it,but it will be a help just as it has with alcohol.

Legalization wont keep it out of childrens hands, but I am also one who believes that it should be legal. I no longer smoke.
As for the TOPIC I dont see why building a new prison in Iraq is such a problem. We scratch their backs and hopefully they will do the same and allow us to keep a small base in Iraq for intel purposes.

Thank you BV, I guess the only problem I have with building them a new high tech prison is the over than $100 million dollar price tag, that would take a lot of back scratching of our back.

It is a goodwill gesture, I agree that it could be better spent but we have always done a lot of rebuilding, removing icons of the old regime and also one of the prison scandal as well. I guess tearing it down will symbolize moving on and rebuilding will ease the memories from all sides.

For the record, the Iraqis in charge have even said that tearing down the prison is a stupid waste of money. I'm not bothered that we're spending the money in Iraqi instead of in the U.S., but I do think that we could spend that money on something better than a nice new prison. Maybe a nice water treatment plant or something.

Already done that..... I agree it is a waste but it is the way of so called civilized society, destroy or make a monument out of a place that was an evil icon... So I guess we are going to bury the bad and hopefully replace it with something better.
Maybe it is a sign we see most of Iraq government is corrupt and they are going to need the space....
I dont know, and with the problems we have in Iraq this one is low on the list of problems.

it doesnt realy matter to me if they build it, I cant remember when any tax money has come my way anyway, other then the return I get thats my own money anyway. 100 million to iraq for a new prison or 100 million to deadbeats, so what?

Well I guess thats one way to look at it. Still think thats to much U.S. money to just give them so they have this nice high tech prison.

100 million sounds like a lot but it is nothing compared to what we will give to France, Germany and other nations who ask for help all the time.
Maybe we could find a politician who will say that he/she is taking 100 million dollars and giving it to those who served in the military or another branch of civil service. :D That would be my hero... LOL
