Of all the great speakers I am familiar with, this quote has to be one of the greatest made in our country's history:

"The only thing needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke

Edmund Burke was a really great speaker that seemed to have his head together and often had many intesresting things to say.

For the rest of you, what's the most influential quote you've ever both heard and live by?

Here are the quotes I love the most, all are from Mark Twain, he was a humorous man who expresses himself in quips that I love.

I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.

The older we grow the greater becomes our wonder at how much ignorance one can contain without bursting one's clothes.

When angry, count four; when very angry, swear.

Man is the only animal that blushes -- or needs to.

There comes a time in every rightly constructed boy's life when he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure.

Education is the path from cocky ignorance to miserable uncertainty.

The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.

Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.

I am a democrat only on principle, not by instinct -- nobody is that. Doubtless some people say they are, but this world is grievously given to lying.

Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

Faith is believing what you know ain't so.

Thousands of geniuses live and die undiscovered -- either by themselves or by others.

this is so off topic but i love that movie. the other day i watched it frame by frame looking for subliminal mesages. its was fun. I can recite every line from that movie.

the book is better than the movie though

here is a great quote from the movie

"And then... something happened. I let go.
Lost in oblivion -- dark and silent
and complete. I found freedom. Losing
all hope was freedom."

"The party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness; only power, pure power… The object of power is power … The world that we are preparing is a world of victory after victory, triumph after triumph: an endless pressing, pressing, pressing upon the nerve of power."
George Orwell – Nineteen Eighty Four.

I have many more that I really like. At my place of many quotes that has not been updated in a century (http://quetzla.batcave.net/quotes.html)(Not a website). I'm sorry for having one of the crappiest servers this side of your mom, but I'm lazy and my server isn't plugged in yet.
