I read the biography of LBJ a month or so ago - very interesting. You don't hear too much about that President these days but he had a very interesting life. Came from nothing - his family was far from wealthy.
Congressman, Senator, leader of the house, vice president & then president after JFK assasination and then landslide re-election followed by stepping aside 4 years later, then he died within a few years.
He made a fortune owning radio & TV stations while in the senate (his wife ran the companies). Actually his wife Ladybird had some money left to her from her parents.
Given he was a southern politician - he achieved much in the way of civil rights. He pushed through the landmark 1964 civil rights bill.
The list of his achievements is incredible.
In the end he was overshadowed by Vietnam and this has become his legacy.
