Here is an article that says they think they have found the fabled Lincoln Suicide Poem. Could this poem shed light on Lincolns state of mind when his engagement fell apart? Or could it just be that he was infatuated with the human mind and why a person would take their own life?

I would imagine that, like anyone, he would have been depressed at the breaking of his engagement.

Sometimes people are motivated to write poetry when they're in an emotional state of mind...it's therapeutic. :D

I have read the suggestion that when you are angry or sad to write down these feelings to express them for the release.
Could be that Ol' "honest Abe" was doing this very thing.

After all he did not have us here, at the forum, to confide in..
all our sympathy and such. :D

When I said that people write poetry for therapeutic reasons, I wasn't making a joke. I was speaking from personal experience.

You're right Dan, writing to release powerful emotions is a very common thing.

I'm not sure what people write when they're angry, (maybe letters to editors and Congressmen), but when they're sad and lonely, people write poetry and music.

Yikes!! Pagan, you seem a little touchy. Do you have a letter to the editor on MS Word all ready to go? :D

But Dan is right, without us wonderful people at the forums (including Mr. Shaman) what would we do??

I hope this is indeed a poem from Lincoln. What a relief to know that he was truly a decent man.

No I just post in World News and Politics when I am angry...
I always write when I am depressed and sometimes it is good.
I was told by a Psychiatrist that if it wasnt for mental illness we would have no art.
I agree, most of the best writers and artist have been depressed alcholics who died alone or died by their own hand.
