The bits and pieces I see on the news say that China is re-looking their view of America. The leaders in China are viewing America's fight on terrorism as an "encircling" of China.
As we gain co-operation with other eastern countries,China views this as some sort of agression against the expansion of China.
China viewed the very rapid deployment of troops to Baghdad as something that could happen to them.
They state that they do not have the troops necessary to fight off the U.S in the event of an attack but will now start to strengthen troops, laser guided weapons, underground facilities and other capabilities to protect their country. They also stated that they would view any activity over any territory they consider Chinese property an act of agression against mainland China.

Seems the Cold War is not dead.

From what i read prior to the war, the main threat against China is not military but economical. By ensuring direct or indirect control over most of the world's oil reserves, the USA would be able to put restrictions on China's economic and possibly miltary expansion, since China's energetic resources are very limited. In the vast geopolitical game which has been played since the end of USSR, the efforts of USA have been to make sure China (and possible Europe) could not build its own network of energy suppliers.

China is looking hard at trying to bring Tawain back under their control. I feel that they must be considering military action and are concerned that we will defend Tawain.

I doubt China would really attack Taiwan. They have nothing to gain in a military confrontation with the USA. Their growing economy is a much bigger issue than this island, as long as Taiwan stays in a vague political status of semi-independance and they can pretend it is not.

Yes, China wants Taiwan back bad.

China has said they want to attack Taiwan and they even said that they are concerned that if they start military actions against Taiwan we would step in.

that would be really stupid of them. as long as they retain economic control of Taiwan it really doesn't matter who is in control politcally, becasue China will always get what they need out of them. if they had a military confrontation with the U.S. it would not be pretty.

If we had military confrontation our economic situation would not look pretty.

if the economy was still terrible we would hear about it everyday, when it drops off the radar that means its doing good. you just have to know how to watch the news. with the alarmist, defeatist anti-bush media what they dont talk about is as important as what they talk about.
