This topic has likely been started before, but I can't find it. (I'm new so if this topic is already a dead horse then I apologize).
Question: What is the worst book you've ever forced yourself to finish? Especially those well-known "classics" or "bestsellers" that you think turned out to be duds...
(You can define "worst" any way you want).
My Answer: Wuthering Heights, by far the most irritating novel I've ever read.

Worst book, hmmmmm...
Probably any of the Mack Bolan series, read those while in the Navy, quick reads and cheap. Horrible pulp trash.

ugh... DAVID COPPERFIELD!!! i read everything...and i HATED this book. It just seemed like there was no end to it. I mean, dont get me wrong, his writing is superb, and he is one of the greatest authors of all time. However, this book just dragged on and on...its a must NOT read!

I'd have to say Wuthering Heights too....although im not quite sure if i ever finished it or not. Spark Notes will do that to you. Same for Great Gatsby. Also, somebody from our school was nice enough to set up a helpful site (http://geocities.com/lhsbooknotes/) with notes on all of our books.

Here is an interesting site that mildly mocks famous literature by turning them into short summary Book A Minute Classics (http://www.rinkworks.com/bookaminute/classics.shtml)
Some of these are very amusing.

The lord of the rings collection, I read the hobbit in about 4 days and thought it was amazing and then knowing the first of the films were coming out i tried to read the first LOTR book and failed. I just couldnt get into it in the same way as the Hobbit.
Also Prozac Nation simply because i have to start it over and over again, when i get so far in and the depression the book describes so perfectly manifests on me.
