I notice that some reference is made to Saudis here.
In 79 while in Houston I got to know quite a few Saudi people and their families. Most were with the country owned oil conglomerant Aramco and attending college here. I got to know them quite well as individuals. I had dinner at their homes and invited them often to my home , talked and had fun in general. I helped them whenever they had a problem understanding certain proceedures in our country. They respected me and I them. I liked them.

Well, one day I was taken to meet one of the Kings nephews a high ranking Saudi official. Boy, was I in for a surprise.
This guy was one of the most haughty, upitty, individuals I believe I have ever had the misfortune of meeting.
Soon it was obvious that he disliked all Americans and considered himself quite a cut above any living human on earth that was not Saudi. We drank strong coffee from tiny cups and I got the heck out of there at first opportunity.

Later questioning my acquaintances I learned that the Royal family are all like this. I had hoped it was only one individual.

Do not trust the Saudi rulers. They dispise us. They are not our friends.

The bush family doesn't think so.

Aren't all Royal Families like this? I bet having tea with the Queen would be a similar experience.

There are always lots of Arabs in London - I remember being in some club in London and there was a bunch of Arabs in their long white robes dancing and drinking whiskey. They go to other countries to do the kind of things that are illegal in Saudi (no drinking allowed there)

The Saudi royal family also has a bit of a problem with inbreeding. It's not uncommon for cousins to marry, and more than one member of the royal family is "high-strung".

Correct Drew, At that time they had the entire 4th floor of the Gallaria (very pricey) rented. In 79' 1000 dollar a night hookers were running all over the place. When I questioned this they told me that they leave their Country to party.
I asked where they partied when at home? The answer was Egypt, that the most beautiful Whores in the world were from there.
Also I was told that in their own Country that they must lead a religious life. ;)

I doubt anything major has changed in the last 25 years.

I saw the Saudi's drinking whisky in the late 80's.

Whenever I go to London now I don't go to clubs - but I bet they are still indulging.
