ok, I've had it. all I can see all over posts is "typical liberal" and "that's the way liberals always think" and a million other ways of poeple lumping everyone into one group becasue their politics swerve to the left. mind you, if people were saying this about conservatives, it would piss me off too. I feel like people spend way to much time insulting political factions, and the one's people expressing opinions belong to, as popposed to discussing thing. so let me make a request:
get beyond the labels. look at people arguments, and start arguing, not insulting. thank you.

I agree completely. I had the same rant a few months ago.

Kinda on the same lines are people who change their beliefs to fit the classic conservative or liberal beliefs. I've seen a few on this forum.

Some people just want to fit in, I suppose. Of couse, they have few beliefs of their own and just act like a bunch of yes-men...people with no independent thought like that irritate me.

I had wanted to make a topic just like this also! The simple fact is such terms as "liberalism", "conservatism", "libertarianism", what have you, are loose and generalized. It is unscrupulous to assume that any two "liberals" will have the same opinions on [run down a list of presumed liberal tendencies towards blah issues] This practice vastly reduces arguments' quality because making loose assumptions about other people's opinions based on whatever label you stick to them results in misunderstanding. Instead, listen to every individual and understand their opinions. No two liberals (or conservatives etc...) have the same opinions on everything or resolve problems in the same manners!
