Why are we not allowed to see the flag covered coffins of our dead soldiers? Makes me feel like, hey there is a war.....but we dont want you to see the consiquences. As someone who has lost friends, and has many more over there that I pray for daily, show these pictures play taps and see that its not all rosey. They say family privacy, bull****! coffins are unnamed and covered, so who could know. I was wondering if anyone else thinks we are seeing to much of Iraq suffering and not enough about our soldiers giving thier lives doing what they were ordered to do. I feel for Iraq, but show thier dead and talk about them then show ours and lets talk about them a bit more. not just a number on CNN.

Welcome to AllForums !

I agree iwth you 100% - we should see these photo's of the dead soldiers - its an important sobering point.

Instead, we see a pile of naked iraqi's with bags on their heads. Obviously this image is deemed more appropriate for the American public consumption.

I would agree, let us honor those who have given their lives. A flag draped coffin is sobering and reminds us that war should never be taken lightly.

Could it be that the powers in charge do not want the American public to see the reality of the war.
Headlines in newspapers or bombs bursting on the news does not carry the finality of death that a coffin represents.
The reality of war could bring about a loss of public support and pressure of an early pull out of troops.
The feeling of the possibility of death a long way from home is a terrible feeling. Not a t.v. reality show.

I believe this has been a policy since the Vietnam era. The families of KIAs were not happy that their coffins were constantly on the news and felt it was the politicizing of their deaths. They pushed the Pentagon to prohibit the photography of the coffins as they returned and out of respect for the families of the dead they did. This has been Pentagon policy since the early 70s I believe and is nothing new. I may be wrong in some aspects but I think for the most part it is pretty accurate. If anyone cares to elaborate or clarify something feel free.

I think that if this is what the famlies of our dead soldier's want than that is what we should give them.

What irony - those American Soldiers who lost their lives vs. those that are "sexually humiliating" the Iraqi prisioners. Dare I say that they died in vain? I think it much more sobering to see flag draped caskets rather than hooded naked Iraqis and the faces of their tormentors.

It seems like a double standard.

Honestyhurts, I totally argree with you. Welcome to the world of corrupt Media. Where the Media loves to see Americans make one little mistake and stab us, America Media and foreign media. It is sad what the media portrays sometimes, really sad. I think the media thinks that the prisoners are really more important than our beloved troops. I rather hear about a solider that fought for his country than people yapping their mouths about a Iraqi solider getting treated inhuman. It is sad that some media is pulling away from the soliders that died for our country. :(

The media is going to talk about what they think will sell. Ratings are what it's all about.

That being said, the ongoing prisoner abuse scandal is not about "one little mistake" on the part of a few American soldiers. It is looking more and more like there was a policy decision made to treat Iraqi prisoners in ways that were in violation of several articles of the Geneva Convention. They call such behavior "war crimes", and our country needs to take this seriously.

Our beloved troops are not above international law, nor should they be. I have the utmost respect for soldiers who are willing to risk everything for their country, and because of this respect, I think it's extremely important that the people responsible for the torture of Iraqi prisoners be held accountable under internatinal law for their crimes.

I agree that we should never politicize those who have fallen. War, once we have commited troops shouldn't be politicized as well. Politicians make decisions based on being re-elected and that never mixes well with any military action.
