First of all I do not feel bad for what happened in Iraq. Remember Sept. 11th, remember the innocent people who died that day. The photos may be naughty, but come on America get over it! We should not apoligize for this matter. I never heard one sorry from the radical muslims, not one. Remember these people captured were about to KILL AMEICAN TROOPS, OR ALREADY DID! And if we let them go, back to their animal society about to hunt a American troop down. This is war, this happens, so I think we should get useful info. from the captures, even if we have to use force. Animals will be always animals if you let them go, so wake up America.

I'm not even going to try and start arguing with you, but please let go of the spetember 11th thing. I know, it's tragic that people died. but the reason this happened is becasue most Americans had no clue that terrorism could exist in this country. for most people it wasn't even a possibilty. it's sad, it's trgic, but our own mindset of invulnerability allowed it to happen. we're lucky that this is as badas it gets, most people have it much worse.

I agree with your sentiment to a point - I must admit I do have a reaction along the lines of - those Arabs have got some nerve being upset about this abuse thing when they burn people alive and hang them off a briddge - plus no apology. But, having said that - it is a minority of Arabs that do that type of thing, just like this is a minority of soldiers - but the main point is we invaded them with a logic of being the moral authority - so in that sense we do need to avoid this type of torture stuff.

I understand your arguments and agree to an extent. However these acts make us no better than the terrorists that do it to us. If we are truly to set ourselves apart from the terrorists, and this is a true battle between good and evil, we need to show that through our actions as well as our words.

Exactly. We should apologize because we were wrong and because it shows that we were serious when we said that the torture of the Americans in Falluja was wrong. We should apply the same rules to ourselves. (And by the way, if I see one more liberal on this board demean the deaths of those people because they were contractors I think I shall scream!)

Are you saying we should have the “right” to do what they do to us? That is childish, unethical, and hypocritical. For we are only fueling the hatred for us, and the hatred to commit the torture they inflect on us.

Us torturing them will make them hate and want to torture us more. So if we wanted to be smart about the situation, we wouldn’t do the same. Do you want to sink and become as low as them? Don’t you want to feel pride in knowing you do not act like them? The pride that makes America so great? The fact that we are above Saddam Hussein and torturing all together?

I’m sorry you lost them.

First, us torturing them will only make them commit more harsh, and cruel punishments against us. It will do no justice for our POW’s...it will only hurt them.

Secondly, yes they commit harsh punishments against our POW’s. But if you wanted to feel better and act superior then them you wouldn’t torture them. It’s hypocritical to get frustrated with them for torture, and then we go right ahead and do the same.

Again, the main images, video and violence has not been released. We have attacked them with dogs, and done many more torturous things we don’t know about, that is out there. So us acting like them, will only remind them of one person, Saddam Hussein.

Us torturing them will only be used as a persuasive tool, to recruit and create more hatred and disgust for Americans and our soldiers. That will lead to more cruel treatment of our own soldiers. If we wanted to stop, and work towards better treatment of our own soldiers we would treat theirs with respect and dignity.

This will also make more terrorists and new terrorists who want to commit attacks against us. To say this war in Iraq is making us "safer" is dead wrong. Many people around the world hate us, and now with these images, even more people hate us. We are in deep...too deep.

I think that if we were all over there for the past year, we may be singing a different tune. While I do not condone what the handful of soldiers did, I will say over and over again that they were not pulling the prisioners limbs off, not scalping them, not pulling their eyelids off, etc. and any number of things that I'm sure go on in military prisions all over the world - but without pictures and video. Yes, I'm sure that even more people hate us. But I'll bet the number of immigrants hasn't declined since the war began...anyone have any info on that?

The reason that people wish to come to the US, is because when you live in this country you don't have to fear being tortured or abused by your government. That's the theory anyway.

WHAMMY BAR that is a problem in today's society, we are trying to forget about Sept 11th. We cannot forget about Sept 11 th or Pearl Harbor or those people who died when harm came it's way. I grew up around the miltary and love that red white and blue. Sept 11th brought many americans closer and helped people realize that American Flag is a very strong symbol. Look around , what do you see, American flags all over people's cars. it is sad to say it took time for many Americans to realize that the Flag is a symbol for what we stand for.Anyone saying that we have to foget what happened is not really remorseful about what happened.
We apoligized from the head chief about what happened to those prisoners, ok. Lets move on dont put down one thing that happened in the war. We are pulling away what is really happening over in Iraq. We have radical muslims willing to kill us in anyway, even or home turf. Alot of people are saying that this will cause more harm to us in America, well hate to tell you guys that is what Terrorist love, fear in peoples eyes. We have done more good in that country and they should be thankful, which some muslims are. Sure some soliders messed up, but put yourself in their shoes. Seeing everyday one of your fellow soliders dying, or seeing American soliders getting ambushed, or radical muslims firing from Mosques, and we can do nothing about it. Lets not forget that we went there for a reason, not oil, you see us importing oil back,no! We are doing more good and harm. So to the media and fellow liberals, wake up , we are in war and things happen. Look at Vietnam, American troops were skinned alive as P.OW.S. You see us breaking legs, skinning or hanging them from bridges, no. So support our troops and stand up for America and never close your eyes on the miltary. The Miltary are the ones that made America what it is .

I don't think supporting our troops and going after the few bad eggs are mutually exclusive activities. I've been nothing but supportive of this war, but I just don't think we can be so dismissive of this sort of treatment, even if it's mild compared to what's been done to Americans.

I agree Lionel...they should be punished. All the way to the top brass. I'm just saying that it could have been much worse. Who knows, when we see the rest of the photos and video, it may be much worse. But Saddam killed over 300,000 of his own people VIOLENTLY. Now I see the US wants to turn him over in July to face trial. LMAO - I can't wait to see that.
