This is a disgrace to our country. To have people in our own Government (Rumsfield), who knew that this was occurring in Iraq, all the way back in December and ignored it, is just downright awful. Colin Powell told Rumsfield about this all the way back in December and told him to pay attention to this, and he did nothing. Now he even admits he did a “bad” job in handling the situation...but that he should still remain in the Bush administration? Seriously, give me a break. Bush even wants him to stay, and that just shows you how stupid our president is.

We have yet to see all the video, and images of the torture the American soldiers have inflected upon the Iraqi POW’s. Rumsfield, said that the images and video that have not been released is way worse then what the American public has seen. So the anger and frustration most Americans have now, will only get worse. Let alone the Iraqi’s...

Many Republicans say that this is just a few “bad eggs” and it shouldn’t “ruin our name” worldwide. But the thing they don’t understand is, this has been occurring for a long period of time and it has also been done by more then just a few soldiers. To fact that the images we see now, are nothing compared to what is out there, makes you wonder if we are really better then Saddam Hussein? Isn’t the “new” reason for Bush invading Iraq, is to liberate the Iraqi people of a dictator who kills his own men and women? But then America goes to Iraq and tortures them? It seems as if a lot of hypocrisy is occurring. Whether it is a few soldiers or not, the Arab world will not see it as so. The Arab World is going to turn against us, and now terrorism is an even larger issue to America The reason I blame President Bush, is because he elects the people in his cabinet. Then they elect the people under them, so on, so forth. So this is happening, because of Chain Of Command.

The Arab world will not take this lightly. Our name is ruined word wide and especially in the Arab world. Many people have said it will take 30 years for them to forgive us. The terrorists will use these pictures for recruiting, and to fuel even more hatred for America. To think this Iraq war is indeed stopping terrorism is wrong, for this is the hugest mistake we have made in Iraq so far. This will lead to hatred and disgust for all Americans for years to come. The terrorists will now stop at nothing to go after America. To put it in one word we are doomed.

They already hated us, and this will only make the hatred worse. The Iraqis will now fight with vengeance against us. The abuse would make anyone “pissed” off. But when it attacks their religion it’s another. You have a Christian president, and Administration who invades Iraq (a religious country). The fact that our soldiers are now disrespecting their religion, is going to led to extreme hatred. When men commit homosexual acts, it is a sin, (I believe). When a women does those kind of acts that are in the pictures to men, it is a sin. So that will make them hate us even more.

Now we go into the torture aspect. Our soldiers hold them on leashes, and all other torturous things we don’t know about (Bush keeping them from us!). That will make the Arab World, believe that all Americans think Arabs are no better then dogs.

It’s going to be a long road from here on out, and the only way for them to trust us, is if we get Bush out of office. They are disbelieving of Bush and loathe him. Kerry will bring the world in and mend the wounds Bush has caused.

I agree 100% it's a disgrace, and I agree Rummy should go, but the real issue here is the actual abuses committed.

I read an article yesterday of a report of a soldier posted to the prison in Feb time, after the abuses occured and one of the replacement soldiers as the 'abusive' soldiers were rotated out. His comments were that they were told quite clearly that abuses had occured and they were under a microscope.

So, it looks like actions were taken, maybe not enough, but the Pentagon did also make a press release in Jan that they were investigating abuses at the prison.

Rummy's comment that you don't get the real gravity until you see the pictures makes sense. You wouldn't with just words.

The situation is terrible & Rummy should go because the issue is bigger than if he should stay or not - but there does seem to be some right actions in the pot - not that it matters much at this stage

Could be that this new situation in Iraq will help defeat Bush.
Kerry then will have this opportunity you speak of.
I hear so much how Kerry will save america, we will see.

To have people in our own Government (Rumsfield), who knew that this was occurring in Iraq, all the way back in December and ignored it, is just downright awful.

The Pentagon and White House issued a press release in January. From his learning of the acts in December to a press release in January is fairly quick. I don't know if we should ask for the resignation of The Secretary of Defense or even any of the senior officers until all has been revealed. If this had taken place within our own penal system it would have been a back page mention. There is no difference.

I find that the press willingly help the pictures until sweeps month was quite curious.
