wow, a website abut shopping for owmen, since when was that the only thing girls are into? and since when is it an exclusively female activity? and the person who runs the website shops at boring stores. why bother living in New York if you spend ur life above Houston?

girlie

The site expressly says that men are welcome! Hey, maybe you guys can get some ideas on what to buy for your, wives, girlfriends, significant others for the next special occassion! :)
It's not so bad!!!!
I welcome male visitors, and would love to have males become members. Give us your view of the world. You can post under "Things you don't like" if women's shopping annoys you.

To the person who said that the site is boring, I welcome feedback; please, please, please let me know what you didn't like. Do you have any suggestions about more "fun" stores? Send 'em on!

Hey, any reaction, is better than no reaction at all. :)

dont bother with the feminists on this board, they are angry and bitter towards the world. they see everything as a battle agaisnt stereotypes and breaking down walls or whatever teh ll it is they want to destroy these days. they only celebrate being a woman when they can favorably compare themselves to men.

Actually, I JUST went for some. But seriously, you do...you sometimes just crank things up a notch for shock value. Nothing in girlie's post was threatening, and certainly had NOTHING to do with feminism. Her "Girlie website" was more stereotypical of inequality of the sexes than promoting otherwise. It made me sick actually (no offense girlie) to think I would celebrate my womanhood by going to a pink and purple website with butterflies and learn to be girlie while checking out make up and lip gloss. To me, being a woman has not too much to do with all that.

girlie
04-20-2004, 02:06 PM
It made you sick? Have you seen Legally Blonde? It so is about that. Well, to some of us anyway...

I just wanted to make sure that no one was offended, and that men didn't feel prejudiced by my celebrate being female, and wear loads of pink stuff, site.

I'm not prejudicial towards men, at all, and I didn't want it to come off that way. I think men are darling creatures, so you all should celebrate yourselves! :)

Hey, how come there isn't a celebrate being male site somewhere out there? Or is there? I wouldn't know.

Anyway, I would love some male perspective on my site, and I would love more male visitors, so... anytime you're looking for some pink... come on over. :)

And Core... I hope it didn't make you too sick...

If there was such a thing, it would be about sports, beer, and women (typical stereotype).

OK, Core, I wasnt talking about what girlie wrote, I was talking about how whammybar came in with the tired out old cliche about how not all women are like that and all that. I dont see why some women get so offended when someone suggests they enjoy shoping and girlie things. a lot of women do like that kind of stuff. the feminists want all women to spend their lives trying to compete with men and out do men, most women are happy being women who enjoy typical women things. both men and women have thngs they excel at, and do not excel at, some people spend their lives in an all out effort to blur the lines. If you want to be a pissed off feminist thats your thing, but dont get all voer girlie for enjoying girlie things. there is nothign wrong with that.

Well now see I got confused. I thought you were calling girlie a feminist. Shwew. Glad we got that straight. Although now your calling me a pissed off feminist....and well that's just not true. I have had to tolerate "girlie girls" all my life..but I'm not mad about it. It's just a shame that more of them can't present themselves as more confident when it comes to things that aren't so "typical" of women.

Travh20
04-20-2004, 04:44 PM
why do you care how they present themselves? if they want to be feminine women, or "girlie girls", as you call them, thats their call. Why do feminist insist that all women take up the good fight to compete with men on every level of society? why cant we just agree that there are some things that men do that women cant, and there are some things women can do that men cant? Why is it that feminists only feel they have succeeded when they have equaled a man in an achievment? If anyone keeps the steroetype of women not being as good as men going its the feminists. when women realize that they are special in their own ways, and have thier own attributes and strengths seperate from men, and that life would stop without them, then there will be some sense of harmony. theres nothing worse then some jack booted clip haired feminist attacking a woman for being who she is. and no, I am not calling you that core, its just what I ahve observed in my small setion of the world. I remember when my wife took our baby daughter to work one time. my daughter happened to be wearing a little bow in her hair, and some lesbian short haired feminist said to my wife "you dont have to make her wear a bow in her hair you know" or some smart ass comment like that. Keep in mind, the girl is 1 year old, and her hair is not very long. aside from dressing her up in pink there is no way to really tell her apart from a boy. my wife was upset at this snide coment, and so was I. A feminist already trying to turn my daughter into a man hating feminist at age 1. :@@:

Trav, personally I don't label myself a feminist, but I beleive in equal rights. I also like a shopping and doing my hair as much as any woman. I read Vogue. I own too many paris of shoes, and my mom won't buy me new clothes until I clean out my dresser, becasue it's overflowing with clothing from shopping too much. I alsoknow that there is a lot more to me than that. I'm not a guy, and I can't do everything a guy can, while guys can't do everything I can. I was just pointing ou tht there is a lot more to celebrating femininity than clothing and makeup.

Travh20
04-20-2004, 05:03 PM
yes, there is more to celebrating femininity then shoes and cloths, but thats how she decided to do it, so I dont see why she was attacked. believe it or not, we all know by now that women are more then cloths and make up.

who is the one standing up for the right of all women to be who they are and not be forced into feminist servitude? who are the ones attacking this girl for implying that women may want to go to a site that has cloths and makeup and traditional feminine things? I think you have been drummed so hard to go into convulsions anytime your platform is criticized that you instinctivly start attacking whoever said it, not stopping to even see what they said.

First let me say....this is in NO way directed to girlie.....Trav just blew this into stereotypes...and well I felt like talking.

Well I'm sorry to hear that about your daughter. And it seems you may have some issues with women that want to be angry at girlie girls. However, men have a totally different take on girlie girls than females do. It's not to say that you don't have your own thing going on in the male category. The burly men versus the sensitive man etc. I'm just saying that extremely girlie women treat non-girlie women differently. They seems to think themselves more "groomed" so to speak. They convey an image that they will do whatever it takes to be noticed by a man. (this includes being of no opinion....not that men don't like that....but that's what girlie girls think. This just irritates me....always has. I'm not wanting a competition better men or women. MEN ARE HOT! But I also wish that some girlie girls would show some depth and stop telling me to act pretty and wear pink!

I am still waiting to see where i said all feminists were like that. you are starting to sound like whammybar and her tirade against calling all palestinians terrorists. do we have to hold your hand little boy and explain every single thing to you? do we have to explain that by saying feminists or palestinians we dont mean all of them? that just becasue part of a group does it and the other part doesnt, doesnt mean that the part that does do it isnt part of the group? I will explain using the feminist. some femists are clip haired jackbooted lesbians, some feminists are not, but tht doesnt mean tht the clip haired jackbooted lesbian feminists are not feminists, or can not be called that without automatically meaning every single feminist. sorry, your old liberal mind tricks are obsolete, and no longer make people cringe.

Okay people! This has gotten out of hand!
Let's all just get along, shall we?

Hmmmmmm... all this girlie girl knocking - I am a girlie girl, and that's the way I want it. That's not to say that I don't have opinions about politics, or about anything else. That's not to say that I do not take an interest in anything other than being female and acting girlie. I just think it's important to do that every once in a while.
You do not have to agree, I am not imposing it on anyone!
If you don't like the site, or wish to participate in that sort of thing, that is up to you! I never said, here's my site, love it!
Someone, I forget who now, said something about girlie girls not being confident in anything that doesn't include shopping, buying shoes, makeup, etc.
I'm in law school, and believe me, I am driven, smart, and I do many other things with my time besides wearing pink and doing my nails! So, who's making blanket statements there?
Well, it's not my style to be nasty, or beat into other people my beliefs, but like I said; the site wasn't imposed upon you, neither was being girlie. You are entitled to your opinion, as is everyone else.
Make sense? Doesn't have to... again, it's just my take.
Now you all be nice to Trav, or I'll sue you. See how girlie I am then!

So, you are telling me that for once, you weren't generalizing? Trav, what the hell do you expect people to think when everybody who disagrees with you is a liberal. And have even gone so far as to make blanket statements about things that liberals believe and attributing them to me, and being bloody wrong. Hmm, it's all coming back to me now. I remember my prof saying that you could randomly pick a name out of the phone book and use them as the measuring life, as long as you knew they were alive. Do you have any idea how many trusts and estates CLEs I've taken and the RAP hasn't come up even once?

I don't practice - I work for a major purveyor of online legal research which you are most likely quite familiar.

After all the time I've spent on there, especially when researching to write my appellate brief I accrued loadssss of points. So, watch out Starbucks.

i thought the site was nice, it was unimposing and i wasn't offended in the slightest i simply realised that the site appeals to some and not others and the others that don't like it should be a bit more considerate of other people's feelings.

i thought the site was nice, it was unimposing and i wasn't offended in the slightest i simply realised that the site appeals to some and not others and the others that don't like it should be a bit more considerate of other people's feelings.

hehe. sorry that you aren't feeling it. we can actually be nice. sometimes. it's not that poeple don't care about others feelings, but we're all just very very frank. and it's an internet forum. so everyone is magnified. I'm sure nobody means any harm.

Yeah, you can't sugarcoat everything. Or anything, for that matter. Or maybe that's just me... *hides under rock with new avatar*
